A good debut
Revisado: 02-13-25
The story was engaging from the start but I felt things dragged for a bit. I could have done without the triangle part of it all and also would have preferred better communication between the main leads. Too many unnecessary bumps in their relationship created by the FMC. I get it, judging by their past but at some point it's just annoying. Why can't you achieve what you want with a man who loves you and is rooting for you by your side? You have to break up for a year before you come to the realisation that you could have still had it all with him? That kind of thinking works if the MMC was someone who didn't understand how important it was for the woman to achieve her own goals. All in all the romance part of the book felt very short with much of the book very angsty (not my first choice of reads but I powered through). Narration was good and helped me get through the parts of the book that had me rolling my eyes hard. All in all, not a bad book but not a great romance book either. Works as a good chic lit so that's good. I don't regret buying the audiobook.

I've loved Lisa Kleypas' books for years. It's great to listen and get pronunciations for some of the words. Story is good and doesn't drag.

A bit PC but still fun
Revisado: 02-16-23
Pronouns thing in the beginning took me a bit out of the story. Maybe cos I am in Africa and it's not as in your face daily as in America. I feel like it could have been done better just like how the sexuality of characters was done organically throughout the book. Story was fun though even if her father dating 6 months after his wife died grossed me out quite a lot. Zelda's constant adolescent whining about it still got on my nerves though. The love story part was kinda cute but seemed rushed because of the constant going back in time. I think one flashback was OK. Sure she missed her mum but I was expecting a story focused on her relationship with Jake and it felt like it was barely there. This was more chic lit than the actual romance I was expecting. Nothing wrong with chic lit just not what I thought I was signing up to hear. Performance was OK although it kinda added to the adolescent sounding FMC.

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

A great listen
Revisado: 01-30-23
I enjoyed this audiobook. Kelly Bowen wrote a good story. The characters were so well written that I absolutely despised Gerald (Angelique's brother) for his stupidity. Pacing was good and there were no unnecessary conflict between the lead characters just because. I enjoyed the performance too although some of the voices could have been better. I am happy this was my first Kelly Bowen book. A great introduction.

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wisecracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were 18? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Revisado: 01-05-23
I listened at 1.6x speed so I finished it very quickly. I really enjoyed it. Fun. Although I found the reason for the main villain quite ridiculous but I guess some people are that Insane. You only need to consider some serial killers reasons to know it is possible. William was a great narrator. The main characters were very lovely (no annoying traits in my opinion and no unnecessary conflicts between the lovers)

Not Great
Revisado: 01-03-23
I really disliked the Male lead in this book. His behaviour towards his so called beloved wife was just inexcusable. It would have made more sense if theirs was a marriage of convenience before his blindness but to claim to love someone and treat them so poorly the whole book just doesn't do it for me. I understand that his misfortune must have affected him but he was just too annoying for me to enjoy the book. The narrator's voice for him was hilarious and ridiculous. it really took me out of the story because I laughed when he was supposed to be expressing anger.
