interesting but unfocused

Interesting case studies and examination of what it means to be human.
Fails to address some of the controversies of primate research, which I felt would have been nice.
Never reached an "aha" moment for me but I thoroughly enjoyed the exploration.

Ending is reminiscent of another novel, and the setting is nothing new, but the characters, pacing, and original twists of horror make this a must read in the genre.

Was my first Murakami, couldn't get enough

I've now ventured through more of his books but this remains my favorite. Performance seems like it should be annoying, but somehow is just perfect instead.

Not a thriller but wonderful human ruminations

Saw a review on here to the effect of "I love post apocalyptic novels and I did not like this." If that is your impression going in you will be disappointed. The premise is merely a vehicle for exploration.
