I was listening and reading Kindle in tandem and stopped the Kindle and just listened to the audible version. The performance was so great I wanted to savour it. was bummed when it was over.

I really liked the first few chapters and I really liked the reader who is the author. He has a lovely easy to understand British accent and he read with enthusiasm and variation. Usually I stay away from books read by the author as they usually don't read quite as well as the professionals. But, I listened to the sample, and was convinced.

Well Yahtzee Croshaw read just fine when he was in the narrator's voice, but as soon as he got into dialogue with more than one person, he assumed this flat monotone to indicate the second character. Well, that was OK, until I got in my car, and what happened was that I could only hear mumbles when he read in the monotone, but could understand everything in his usual voice that rose up and down with a natural cadence. Plus, the zaniness of the book which was so compelling at the beginning didn't have much staying power.

It was a long car ride, and I had to switch books.

Couple buys house that's a great deal even though realtor says it is haunted. Of course, things go dreadfully wrong. Sound like American Horror Story? it is. Narrator saves the day with a brilliant readingin this totally meh short story. Plus I used up one of my Audible Original credits on it only to find out it was only 35 minutes long.

While there is a lot of actions, characters are flat and don't always stay consistent. There are also way too many characters and plot. But, the story is easy to follow, and the topic is fascinating. I never knew anything about the Koreans who migrated to Japan.

If you could sum up Waking Gods in three words, what would they be?

Original plot concept

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Great cast of characters, except the following;

London reporter's screechy voice hurt my ears.
South African general made me cringe
Little girl with Spanish accent had too strong an accent to listen to for a long time.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

don't want to plot kill

Any additional comments?

Please get new narration for book 3, the best narrators seem to have died off unless there is something up.

What did you like best about The Ministry of Utmost Happiness? What did you like least?

The cadence of the writing.

How could the performance have been better?

Arundhati Roy is a great writer, and I loved The God of Small Things, but I am going to switch to my Kindle to read this book. Her voice is soothing and it is great to hear a book by its creator, but her voice never changes tone and it is monotonous to listen to for long periods (and this is a long book!). I find myself drifting and missing key points of the story. Plus, it is difficult to keep the long Indian names straight in my head when they are spoken vs. written. I feel that a professional narrator might have helped with this issue.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lessons to be better than the print version?

I read about it on an Audie page. The performance is great, I am going to look up books by Jot Davies. And, the writing is top rate. The wording just tickles me, only way to describe it. I find myself in the car, listening and nodding at a great turn of phrase read by the brilliant Jot Davies.

What did you love best about The Green Road?

I felt like a bird reading the book perching on each point led by the strong narrative. I loved the way the author used non essential elements to move the narrative along. I would not recommend this book to book club, as certain members may find it too difficult to follow the plot. It takes a serious reader to enjoy this type of writing.

What other book might you compare The Green Road to and why?

Reminded me of Mrs. Dalloway.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Constance - except I wish the narrator had a more authentic Irish accent

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Dan reappears in the United States. Don't want to plot kill so I won't say why.

Any additional comments?

I love listening to Irish books because of the Irish narration. Its music to the ears. I could be wrong, but the narration at times sounded like American readers impersonating an Irish accent.

If you could sum up The Cat's Table in three words, what would they be?

Narrator is dreadful

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Michael Ondaatje?

Anybody else. I loved the book, but had to put it down, because it was so straining to hear and understand Michael Ondaatge's voice. It was extremely monotone and he finishes all his sentences with a fade out. I have stopped listening to a few audible books because the books were bad, but I have never stopped listening because of the narration. But, it was simply too much to overcome.
