Historia
I>Shards of Honor is the novel in which Lois McMaster Bujold introduced the science-fiction world to Barrayar and Aral Vorkosigan, Beta Colony and Cordelia Naismith. From this beginning the author has created a multigenerational saga spanning time as well as space. Bujold is generally recognized as the current exemplar of the character-based science-fiction adventure story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. It is hard to pick a favorite series but this may be my favorite. In fact, I may go into a mild depression when I finally listen to the last of this series; always a sign of a great series.
Hopefully she is still writing the series(?) Luckily, I have the Chalion series next. Hopefully it will be almost as fabulous a listen.
What other book might you compare Shards of Honor to and why?
I'm writing about the series so I don't know that this particular book is better or worse than others. I view it more as one long book. Not that you have to listen to the whole series. Each book stands alone. But, who can listen to just one!
Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?
Miles is the main character so the favorite. And, he is marvelous. But, all of the characters are great whether likable or not. And, like any good "entertainment" author, the bad guys don't get to be the main characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Question is too difficult.
Any additional comments?
Even if you don't like science fiction, you will like this series. I can't imagine the personality that wouldn't. It even has some romance for those who are "strictly" romance novel readers.
I especially like Miles' attraction to "really, really tall women". And, not particularly limited to "humans". You'll have to listen to hear the genius of Bujold being able to create those liasions and hear that they are about much more than sex - which luckily for me - is not graphic. (Yes, if you listen, there are some life lessons in each of these books. But, it is not heavy-handed nor in your face. Just there if you want to hear them.)
I loved the book with the "carpet-bombing". Funny stuff if you listen for it.

Historia
Lady Jane Hamilton, one of the guests at the Lochdubh School of Casting, is positively ruining everyone's holiday with her knack for digging up nasty secrets. As the week-long fishing class progresses, she gives each person there a reason to hate her. But figuring out which one of them would go so far as to commit murder is trickier than catching a Lochdubh salmon.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. I loved every book in the series.
What other book might you compare Death of a Gossip to and why?
It's a series so I'm reviewing the series not the book. The series is fabulous. When Davina Porter reads (most of the series but unfortunately not all of it), the books are more humorous. She can make you laugh at the Scots while adoring them.
Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. She is great; one of the best.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
no.
Any additional comments?
Listen to the whole series. A couple of the other readers aren't as good at making the dry humor really funny but all the books are worth it. I've read other books of M.C. Beaton (and her other pseudonyms) but none are close to equalling the Hamish series.

Where does Sharpe's Honor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I love the Sharpe's series. Ranking is too difficult. Audible gives so many fabulous options.
What other book might you compare Sharpe's Honor to and why?
Bernard Cornwell's books are all good. I really liked the Sharpe's series (most I listened to from the local library saving my credits for other fabulous books not available there). I've read less favorable reviews in comparison to Patrick O'Brian but why compare them? Both series are very good. Sharpe is probably not as well-written as a literary work but for entertainment value, both Sharpe and Captain Aubrey are equals.
Have you listened to any of Frederick Davidson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. He's fabulous in everything that I can remember.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.
Any additional comments?
Great series. I've liked everything that I've listened to that Bernard Cornwell has written. I haven't listened to "The Fort" although I own it. It received some less than favorable reviews so I haven't listened yet. But, I will.

Historia
For 20 years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland's majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones...about a love that transcends the boundaries of time...and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his....

Would you consider the audio edition of Dragonfly in Amber to be better than the print version?
Didn't read the book but the narration of the series is fabulous.
What other book might you compare Dragonfly in Amber to and why?
It is a wonderful fantasy historical series. I'm certain there are others to compare but I've not listened to any.
What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Davina Porter is one of the best. There are an awful lot of great readers now, though. When I first started listening to "Books on Tape" (that were on cassette tapes!), there were many great readers but there seem to be more now. Back then, I would listen to books based on who read them knowing that the best readers rarely read bad books. But, now there are so many good readers, I don't look for the good readers; I just try to avoid the bad ones.Davina Porter in the Hammish McBeth series (M.C. Beaton) is also wonderful. She doesn't read all of them (unfortunately). I've listened to her read many books by many authors. She is fabulous.
If you could take any character from Dragonfly in Amber out to dinner, who would it be and why?
The choice is too difficult.
Any additional comments?
A wonderful series. The sex becomes repetitive but I guess it has to be included to be a "romance" novel. I just fast forward through all of it. (I think the author became bored with it as well, eventually.)
One of the books in the series has an obsessive fascination with breast feeding. Just fast forward through those parts too if they bore you as much as they did me. I think the author must have been breast feeding or someone in her immediate circle was and it became a distracting part of the book. But, all the books are worth listening too despite these apparently-mandatory "romance" digressions.
My favorite books were the early books set in Scotland. I know little about the Scottish history - other than the most common parts - so the re-telling of the massacres and Bonnie Prince Charlie were fascinating. But, the entire series is well worth money and time.
Obviously, a listener needs to like really long books (I do) and long series (my favorites) though.
