A regency romance in the tradition of Jane Austin and Georgette Heyerdahl
Revisado: 10-08-16
Jane Ashford creates vivid characters. It was refreshing to have a hero who wasn't a rake or a tortured soul in need of a good woman to make him mend his ways. Readers looking for lots of hot, steamy sex should skip this one. But if you are interested in characters you can like and enjoy the regency period, this is a good choice. The heroine starts out shallow, but she matures with experience and come to appreciate the hero. My only complaint is the mystery woven through the isn't much of a mystery. But then it is really only a plot device to bring the hero and heroine together. Also, an excellent narration.

Another wonderful romance from Loretta Chase, one of my favorite authors
Revisado: 05-08-16
I love the characters in this book. Francesca is such a wonderful change from the innocent misses of so many books. She's a woman of the world and doesn't care who knows. She's making her way on her on terms.

Wonderful book, incredible man!
Revisado: 12-19-15
Roosevelt's life was amazingly interesting, never a dull moment. His vitality was astounding. He never stopped or paused. That's one reason this book grabs you from the beginning and never let's you go. Edmund Morris' details and insights give the book tremendous depth. No wonder he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. The narration is also stellar. This is one of those better than fictions stories everyone can enjoy.

Wonderful book, terrific writing
Revisado: 09-07-15
Hilary Mantel makes historical figures so real you feel like they're people you know or have met somewhere. The narration is so good you feel like you are in the same room with them. I highly recommend this audiobook. Only complaint is that there are so many characters -- and half of them are named Thomas or Henry -- that it helps to have a cheat sheet. I found one online.

He's a reclusive writer whose imagination creates chilling horror novels. She's a down-on-her-luck actress reduced to staging kids' puppet shows. He knows a dozen ways to kill his characters with his bare hands. She knows a dozen ways to kill an audience with laughs. But she's not laughing now.

Great story, excellent performance
Revisado: 07-10-15
Susan Elizabeth Phillips is one of my favorite authors. This is one her gems. Perhaps not as bright and shiny as some of her earlier books but a jewel nonetheless.
She fools use in the beginning into thinking Annie is a weak heroine, and then slowly peels away the layers of her character to show us how strong she really is. Theo is the ultimate heart-thong villain who is secretly a hero.

One of Heyer's best
Revisado: 11-22-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance along the lines of a comedy of manners set in the Regency period. I don't think there is any author who writes in that genre who is better the La Georgette, and this is one of her best.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Venetia was my favorite character of course. Most of the men around her think she's a helpless female. She's anything but that.Unlike the heroines in most Regency romances, she doesn't care a bit about cutting a dash in London or going to ton parties.
Which character – as performed by Phyllida Nash – was your favorite?
Also, there have been some comments that Phyllida Nash sounds "too old" to be Venetia. But I found Nash's cultured voice to be exactly perfect for listening to a Regency romance. I wouldn't have changed her performance at all.Her reading helped bring to life the atmosphere and characters as I am certain Heyer intended.
Any additional comments?
I'm a big fan of Heyer's. When I tell people about her books, many aren't interested -- they sound too starchy. But everyone I know that has actually READ one of her romances goes on to the read the rest. They are so good that I've barely finished one and I'm starting another.

Delilah Desmond is not happy. To provide for her, her father has sold his memoirs, filled with scandalous and embarrassing exploits - effectively ruining her chances for a suitable marriage, so she can support her family while saving her father from disgrace. But it seems the manuscript is in demand by all sorts of unscrupulous persons, and preventing its publication is going to be impossible - especially now that it has been stolen.

A truly wonderful regency romance
Revisado: 08-30-14
Where does The Devil's Delilah rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is the way regency romances used to be -- or should be. Full of manners and conversation. A little adventure. Great characters. And subtle, delicious humor.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked all the characters, but relate most to Delilah. She's trying so hard to be a 'society miss' , but her strong intelligence, self reliance and temper get in the way. Jack is a wonderful hero, showing that not all heroes have to rakes. I especially appreciated the dry wit of Devil Desmond, Delilah's father.
