I read this book 40 years ago
Revisado: 04-25-24
I lovvvveee this book! I first read it when I was 14 or 15. I never forgot it and always looked for it to own, but it was out of print by that time. I found it in a library and read it again. Then lost the book and had to pay the library for it. Years later I found it. I cherish the book now and no one is allowed to borrow it unless they live here.
I was so happy when I saw it was on audible that I couldn’t wait for my credits. I had to have it that second! I’m half way through it and it’s still as good as the first time I read it. Thank you for bringing this book to the future! It’s a Freaky Friday kind of story that jumps history. Thank you Audible, Marlys Millhiser and Lynda Evans, who reads the book to us very well. ❤️

Historia
Thelma Foy, a jeweler with the Second Sight in iron-bedecked 1890s New Orleans, wasn't expecting to be caught in a faery conflict. Tam can see through the glamours faeries wear to hide themselves from mortals, but if her secret were revealed, the fey would steal her eyes, her life, or her freedom. So, Tam doesn't respond when they trail thorn-crusted fingertips through her hair at the French Market or when the Dark King sings along with her in the bayou. But when the Dark King, Irial, rescues her, Tam must confront everything she thought she knew about faeries, men, and love.

I’m so confused
Revisado: 02-03-23
This book left me more confused than I already was after reading the 1st 4 books…I hope another book comes along to explain everything and tie it all together in a nice bow. Like, who is the second child? 😩 I still love this series and listen to them often but I need to know more! 🥹

Historia
You’ve read the headlines, but you don’t know Jamie Lynn Spears. The world first met Jamie Lynn as a child star, when it was her job to perform, both on set and for the press. She spent years escaping into different characters—on All That, Zoey 101, and even in the role as Britney’s kid sister. But as she grew up, faced a teen pregnancy, raised her daughter on her own, pursued a career, and learned to stand on her own two feet, the real Jamie Lynn started to take center stage - a raw, blemished, and imperfect woman, standing in her own power.

Made me feel her story
Revisado: 02-07-22
I thought the book was good and it was a good performance by the author. My heart stopped when I listened to what happened to her daughter. I could feel her pain. And where was her sister during this time? Nothing would have stopped me from being by my sisters side. I am a fan of Britney and supported the #FreeBritney movement but reading her tweets to her sister saddened me. All I can see is a lot of me, me, me, cup of coffee and what about me? Britney seems incapable of putting herself in other peoples shoes and seems spoiled and selfish. But Jamie Lynn still protects her in her book. She’s a class act. I’m glad she gave the readers a glimpse into her life. Great job on the book.

Historia
Debra Newell is nothing if not a survivor. By the time she met John Michael Meehan online, she lived through a near-fatal childhood illness, an attempted rape in her 20s, the traumatic death of her sister at the hands of her brother-in-law, four failed marriages, and a litany of dating disasters. But despite those tragedies, she seemed to have it all: adoring children, a successful business, a fabulous penthouse apartment.

Social media needs to chill. This woman did nothing wrong.
Revisado: 01-21-22
Debra Newell is not the best narrator but I think she’s a sweet woman who has either the worst luck EVER or has had a invisible dark cloud hanging over her head throughout her whole life or a huge bullseye on her that says, “abuse me and take my money! I’m a sucker for love.”
I can understand how she fell for so many horrible men in her lifetime because I did too. In fact, this book was triggering for me. Some men are really good at pretending they are someone else, until they “have” you. Similar to people who take in foster kids for the money…they’re “perfect” around the caseworkers and put out that they LOVE children, but when no one is around, they treat the kids like crap. And the kids think they have no choice but to stay, because no one will believe them, or it was worse in their last home or they’re scared to say anything because of what COULD happen to them. Also, being raised in a religious home, you are taught to look at the good in people, not the bad. And to be non-confrontational and passive with our husbands. Throughout everything, Debra doesn’t seem to be cynical at all. She’s a beautiful, wealthy woman. As sad as it is, she has a big red target on her for men looking for an easy life. Think about the person you love. If that person turned out to be a con man, or woman, could you just fall out of love with them? In spite of everything, I think there’s a chance that John may have loved Debra, in his own messed up way. He treated her differently than the other women he was with. He certainly didn’t treat her as badly as Tim did. OMG! What an asshat he was!
I don’t think it’s right to judge her for just wanting true love and a good relationship. An equal relationship. I’d call her a bit naive and very trusting. Sometimes good people don’t understand how evil some people can be because they could never be that way. No one can judge her until they have filled her shoes and felt the emotions she felt. Women always think they are going to be the one to change a man. But it’s impossible. People are who they are. John was just evil and she thought she could change him. It’s not like she met him and the next day he alienated her from her children, controlled her and told her everything he ever did wrong. It happened over time. Like little breadcrumbs. Once she loved him and started figuring things out, she made a plan to get out. But the love doesn’t disappear.
I know I have a lot to say but I really felt for Debra. Like I said, I was in a similar situation. I’m so glad that her daughter survived John and I hope the family heals. Social media trolls are just that. Trolls. No one can say what they would do in a situation unless they’ve been in the exact same place. I for one am happy that there’s one less evil person on this earth.

Historia
Erika Jayne didn't make it this far by holding back. Now, in her first-ever memoir, the fan favorite star of Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills bares her heart, mind, and soul. In Pretty Mess, Erika spills on every aspect of her life: from her rise to fame as a daring and fiery pop/dance performer and singer; to her decision to accept a role on reality television; to the ups and downs of family life (including her marriage to famed lawyer Tom Girardi, 33 years her senior). There's much more to Erika Jayne than fans see on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Pretty good
Revisado: 12-10-21
I think she narrated the story great. It’s a pretty good story that explains a lot. Also, for people who think she knew about her husbands dealings, she plainly states in this book that she never got involved in his business. So that pretty much sums it up for me. She didn’t know. Just like many women who live in the shadow of a domineering man. I’m sure if she ever asked about his business he would simply pat her on the shoulder and tell her not to worry her pretty little head about it. Overall, the book explains a lot about why she is the way she is. It was raw and honest. I liked it.

Historia
In the spring of 2006, a new kind of show premiered on Bravo: The Real Housewives of Orange County. Its stars were tanned, taut, and bedazzled; their homes were echoey California villas; and their drama was gossip-fueled, wine-drenched, and absolutely exquisite. Fifteen seasons on, RHOC is an institution, along with The Real Housewives of New York, Atlanta, New Jersey, Miami, Potomac, and more.

It sounds like it was recorded in someone’s bathroom. The narrator wasn’t bad but the words sounded hollowed. It was annoying so I stopped listening and returned it.
