Historia
It is spring 1919, and John Sawtelle’s imagination has gotten him into trouble … again. Now John and his newlywed wife, Mary, along with their two best friends and their three dogs, are setting off for Wisconsin’s northwoods, where they hope to make a fresh start—and, with a little luck, discover what it takes to live a life of meaning, purpose and adventure. But the place they are headed for is far stranger and more perilous than they realize, and it will take all their ingenuity, along with a few new friends—human, animal, and otherworldly—to realize their dreams.

Liked all: the beautiful turn of a word, the deep and complicated character development, the sweet and wholesome intertwined story lines, the inherent acceptance of and even celebration of, differences. And the dogs. I’d very much like to meet a Sawtell Dog.

Historia
It has been an eventful morning for Agnes Sharp and the other inhabitants of Sunset Hall, a house share for the old and unruly in the sleepy English countryside. Although they have had some issues (misplaced reading glasses, conflicting culinary tastes, decreasing mobility, and unruly grandsons), nothing prepares them for an unexpected visit from a police officer with some shocking news. A body has been discovered next door. Everyone puts on a long face for show, but they are secretly relieved the body in question is not the one they’re currently hiding in the shed (sorry, Lillith).

Delightfully Drôle
Revisado: 02-21-25
An unexpected find, this little mystery is jam-packed with all the unexpected twists and turns mystery lovers adore and is told with a wry sense of humor. The sweet and charming characters are unusual protagonists of a good mystery and add depth and interest to the tale, even Hettie the Tortoise does her bit.

Always respected S King as a riveting weaver and teller of tales, but even more now. From my experience: Impressive descriptions of how women often think and feel about our society -and our place within it. Spot on.

Wholesome, but not Sappy, Entertainment
Revisado: 01-04-24
Ms Streep performs in an expectedly exceptional manner and she has a well-told story with which to work. Characters become friends with whom we can relate at many levels and the events, though individual in nature, could have been life’s course for any reader. Delightful listen.

Historia
A fascinating tour of creatures from the surface to the deepest ocean floor: How Far the Light Reaches invites us to envision wilder, grander, and more abundant possibilities for the way we live. Conservation journalist Sabrina Imbler discovers that some of the most radical models of family, community, and care can be found in the sea, from gelatinous chains that are both individual organisms and colonies of clones to deep-sea crabs that have no need for the sun, nourished instead by the chemicals and heat throbbing from the core of the Earth.
