The recording is broken and it’s skipped ahead.

Chapter 12 about 27min in the story pauses and picks back up but it’s missing a chunk of content can’t tell how much is missing but it’s noticeable

After reading the other reviews I can not tell if they are just fake and paid for or if they are reading this series and actually enjoying it because it is so bad and so corny....

I will give it some credit on the plus side literally everything happens in the first few minutes but my gosh is it just a hot pile of highschool level writting.

It has everything, completly oblivious HMC that thinks she is badass yet every five minutes is getting a beat down because she is either completly stupid or guilible or actually not that strong.

Over protective Alpha males but not in the sexy gruff way more just the who needs an actual story line and or plot lets just growl over and over at each other.

Within the first 20 minutes the FMC finds some mates, then tells them a bad guy killed her whole family, stranger walks up the driveways says one lie with no information behind it and takes the MC away in his car.....i was waiting for the trap but nope they all just let the obvious bad guy take her away to try and torture her....

Seriously all Fantasy RH novels lately have become the playground of bad authors and publishers not doing their jobs, you can tell none of these go through any draft or review process, whatever is written just gets put out there no matter how little it makes any sense or how poor any "romance" is written. Dont waste your money.

Yes obviously this book series was given the green light treatment by the publisher and all efforts were put into making this a thing...and yes its an ok series but after reading all of it I honestly think people should look else where because this whole series ended up being just abunch of self deprication and sub par story.

My main issue with this series is that whenever i finish a fantasy series i ask why did the author want to write this....at the end of Fayre's journey i feel like SJM just wanted to be different....This whole series is sad and frustrating and dark...yes war is terrible, losing family is terrible, mate bonds would be alot of pressure but why read a story when its trying so hard to be "REAL" that its just sad. The first 3 books we deal with all the MC's trauma and the last two while she is finally happy in love we are forces to watch her two sisters have internal pity parties or in Nesta's case be around but not want to be happy because she thinks the evil inside her broke her....Well ok fine its realistic but i dont want to read a fantasy novel series for realism....All the characters constinatly avoid doing or saying all the easy things to try and make the relationships work...they all constantly go out of there way to be the dark angsty one or broken one and its just sad and pointless.

I really could have looked past the Mary Sue villain who had somehow amassed a Army incomparable to all others even though he is the most hated king of all the rulers and everyone knew he would start a war again....still everyone just left him alone for 500 years.

I can ignore what makes it hard for the Fae to reproduce and become a large population somehow doesnt effect any of the bag guy fae's as they bred like rabbits to have hundreds of thousands of soldiers

Ignore every time the plot needed to be moved along some aspect of the bad guys side was able to ignore wards, or detection or opposing strength, every time the Main characters side was caught unaware or unprepared or baffled by how the enemy was able to do what they did all because of the all powerfull MacGuffin but at t he end im just sad.

This is an AI generated pile of tropes thrown together with absolutely no plot. Once again, a series is starting with book, one being Way to short and pointless.

1) Social outcast MC focusing on school and what matters surrounded by pick me girls
2) Defying all odds is placed in the one dorm with the one girl who is psychotically obsessed with the MC’s harem
3) Males realize immediately that the MC is supernatural, but they choose to spend most of book, not telling her for no reason.
4) Among Males is the the usuals, dangerous looking cinnamon roll, positive outlook, quarterback, 50 shades of Grey main alpha and can’t have a story without the damaged bad boy that refuses to accept the mate bond and outwardly treats her terrible whenever possible
5) MC makes no friends and never encounters any normal behaving people it’s just the means girls, the harem and the bad guys
6) lastly, the trope, I am seeing in every first of the series RH Series last five minutes of book the main character knowing there are people wanting to abduct her but yet because she fights with the bad boy, who’s mean to her, she runs away, and no one goes after her, and she is easily abducted by the surprise evil character, she chose not to warn her men about his creepy behavior and book ends so that book 2 can be all about them getting her back

The Performance is fine....not great but fine.

So by Chapter Nine of the first book, you, the reader knows what the main character is...all the main male characters knows what she is.... but no matter how smart the main character is written as being.....even if she is attended one of the best schools in the world on a scholarship for being so dang smart....even if the focus of her smarts is her interest in the thing she is.....she still doesnt get it. I mean, it's not like she knows her mother purposely dragged her across the world moving every year because of something involving her.....but nope she just writes it all off because of course she writes it off....if she didnt we would actually have to start the story.

And only in fiction do you then come across the worse cliches of "Its better off that you dont know" says one male character "Im overly rude too you but its actually for your safety but i cant tell you that" says second male character,

So yes she does find out what she is, no one answers why the hospital tests were wrong....and the men still say "There is a lot of stuff going on but even though your tied to us for life....its better to keep you ignorant, you know, so the bad guys can easily over power us or capture you because you had no idea what to even look for" They refuse to say how they knew where she was to rescue her, they refuse to speak of a bag guy even though its going to be obvious who the bad guys are....

What actually broke it for me was when one mate explains to her why she has episodes of getting insanely itchy and full of this super human energy that keeps her awake for days....He says "Now that you have came into contact with one of your mates, your vital energy knows it has someone it needs to transfer to and if you dont transfer the energy this will happen" and like an idiot she just goes "Ohhh ok that makes sense" instead of the absolutely obvious answer any supposedly inquisitive person would say "But i have had this condition long before i met Mate number 1 and Mate number 2....it actually all started after the crash after I touched hands with the grumpy male that i then became obsessed with finding for over a year...ohh by the way why does grumpy's pain ability effect those around me when he loses control but i've never felt it?" But of course we need to make this some suspenseful reveal.....except its not suspenseful because its overly obvious,

Even after all of this....even after being told the male's parents died in disasters and they treat her like a suburban no body who never knew hardship.....she still doesnt think at all to tell them about how her mother hid her, her whole life constantly moving countries or how around her birthday huge disasters took place near her...this rips you out of the story because there is no reason for her to completely ignore this massive part of her life.

All this is is a sad way to turn one book into three.....and nothing rips my out of a fictional world more than when a supposedly smart character is dumber than a bag of rocks.

Just another slapped together mess of tropes with absolutly no interesting world, no actual characters, no plot and no real point in writting....except for a money grab.

Honestly i wondered if this was just generated by an A.I. that was told to read afew RH novels and spit one out as if written by a highschool student. Ya being mean but honestly i am tired of listening to these novels that should never had been published or at least needed multiple edits/revisions before being put for sale.

The pacing of the story goes break neck speed....to absolutley nothing going on....they skip over the whole summer she is first there just saying "Nothing happened and I just went for a jog each day"

She hates her mother and the mother just says ok well im busy with the PTA bye.

The three boys of course are perfect but hate her and are just vile but wont say why...insert fake mystery, and obviously she just cant handle "The Pull" towards them even when they basically spit on her.

Again this is a shell of a real RH novel dont waste your money.

Short answer....do not buy this audiobook.....in my honestly patheticly large collection of audiobooks never have i ever come across what they did here. Its not as often in book 1 but for the entire book 2 the female characters narrated by this guy....they ran the recording through an auto tooner to try and make it more feminin but honestly i think they used some free software because it just sounds terrible....the main female character speaks often and every time my ears begin to bleed.

Yes the story is a fun isekai with an ok amount of world building but honestly please dont buy this audiobook or its sequel....here is why;

1) There is no reason for Book 1 and 2 not to be one actual size book....its just a money grab

2) Often the story jumps pace in a way to make you constantly think the narrator skipped a page or two...somtimes even a chapter...but nope its just poor writting.

3) THE WORST CRIME....like all audiobooks with 1 male narrator you know the female speaking lines will be bad but Never Ever have i come across this....For the female lines they audotooned the narrators attempted "feminine" voice....not as much in book 1 but all of book 2 the main female lead whenever Barnett speaks her lines it makes your ears bleed the auto toon gets so bad that eventually she sounds like an A.I......Actually SPOILER the main character eventually finds out he has an AI like companion in his head speaking to him and this Program talks with more of a human voice then the female characters....I am sorry but seriously do not buy this audiobook...go read it or find somthing else.

Good Story plagued by internal dialague

The story starts off strong with ok wold building as the story progresses.

The concept of the different races and their connection to a specific sin was interesting

The problem starts in the second half of the book as the MC and the men start internally monologing far too often and when they do it is too often filled with verbosity (Yes i looked it up...i was curious if there was a word for it), I understood the intellectual shifter thinking of a poem in his head but all 7 Main men take the same aspect on and use 3 to 6 adjective heavy sentances in their mind trying to pain a picture and as it drags out one thing becomes completly unforgivable and thats the ending.

As you wonder how long the adjectives will go on for you realize there is only an hour left in the story....i guess the author realized this too because **SPOILERS**.................compeltly out of nowhere an evil so evil the MC cant stand his "evilness" just appears out of nowhere with a deep connecting to one of the MC's best friends.....just as quickly he is killed along with others and the story ends like a freight train slamming into another frieght train. Its all so abrupt and the author trys to cram in so much it just feels bad. I will still pick up book 2 but if the internal monologing continues ill probly return them and give up.

Can never accept this premise

Finally able to finish this complete waste of 7 hours.

Why in a fantasy novel do authors think the premise of "Oohhh we will just go as long as possible without telling the MC about the supernatural world which she is probably was apart of." It becomes so difficult to care about the story when all i keep thinking is....you have to tell her eventually so why wait....it doesnt build suspense each time an obvious line is told infront of her it just makes the story drag out for the sake of making a series instead of a stand alone.

This isnt like twilight where there are a handful of supernaturals among all humans at a school, The MC is saved from her abusive mother and taken to where all the supernaturals are a whole city of them....so she will find out somehow...and it wont be interesting when she does. The author keeps having people like the MC mother...love interests....the stereotypical two friends and the mean girls keep either dropping obvious lines somthing is different or doing things like having their eyes glow or the MC having actualy visions over and over but just saying "Wow thats never happened before...ill tell NO ONE!"

*SPOILERS FROM HERE*

Four chapters in the author had the MC on a private plane with two of the five guys flying to the other side of the country....why would they not just tell her....it doesnt make sense to say "What if it freaks her out" her Mom was throwing boiling water at her and the mother's bf was days away from R'ing her...i think she would be ok with werewolfs

It just goes on and on and on to the point where the MC does literally get mad three times and says "If you all want to keep these obvious secrects fine but im done talking to any of you" Is this the pivitol moment where the guys explain it.....Nope one of the guys tells her his mom died she feels sympothy then completly goes back to talking to all them not caring there is still the obvious MAGICAL ELEPHANT in the room.

The second time she is fed up is when the Mean girl says to her face that she is already "destined" to be with all five of the guys she likes....she storms off again saying the same thing "keep your secrects but im done..." this time one of the men gives such a BS answer and again the MC just says ok ill fold like a deck chair and go on being the dumbest MC ever. The whole time I'm feeling like the actual story the author wants to tell will be in the second or third book, but hey thanks for giving your money on 7 hours of filler with minor world building.....want to hear the real story buy book 2.

How no one in the entire town lets it sleep infront of her that they are all supernatural or know about supernaturals...So just because she doesnt show her powers they dont tell her...but later you find out the town has people without powers and they are allowed to know...

She makes friends with a girl named Sara for all of 5 seconds as the MC sees she has 4 boyfriends.....we dont hear or see this group ever again in the whole story.

Hours go by and literally nothing goes on just boring filler and then she finally is attacked by a demon...they all have to use their powers to save her and bam non suspenfull obvious explanation and everything just goes on because of course she forgives them.

Its so badly written you know this whole book is just about her finding out about supernaturals....the second book is going to be about her finally having a power but it wont show up till the end of book two....the whole time no overarching story is ever established.

And no terrible story would be complete without in the last 5 minutes the MC doing somthing stupid that gets her caught by the antagonists and the scene cuts to black.....for Book 2 please buy now....just urgh. Every series in the last year has followed the Book 1 explaination or understanding ending with a capture of MC. Book 2 is the imprisoned book and book 3 with be when they take the fight to the bad guys and win the day....so boring.

So thats my take....if your like me and cant enjoy a fantasy book that does this old cliche of making the MC a dumbass and thinking this reveal equals suspense when instead its just a poor fill in for lack of story telling....then maybe find another RH fantasy book.
