Every character was human and believable, hateable and lovable. I came away with a new respect for the horror that the people and more specifically the women of France endured during World War II.

I listened to the last chapter while I was at the gym and I’m sure I looked very manly holding back my tears. A very compelling and thought provoking read.

Having learned all I knew about Japanese history in world war 2 from movies I appreciated the fresh perspective offered in this history. Every effort was made to help an ignorant white guy like me understand the nuance of the Japanese culture of that era. Mission Complete.

Once again Brandon Sanderson has succeeded in creating an alternate reality that is so well described you feel as though you grew up there. Add to that an idea that is slightly absurd but so compelling I have reread this book three times now just to tickling my mind. It is a very quick read compared to Sanderson’s other books. It may have been written for a younger audience but as a 47 year old man I find myself daydreaming about the sequel along with the TV series and the video game. If you like Sanderson you’ll LOVE the Rithmatist.

I am huge a fan of all things Sanderson. This series is Sherlock Holmes meets Gregory House and Doctor Who all rolled into one somehow vulnerable character Stephen Leeds.

Most of the time I think that Sanderson’s stories are too intricate to be put on television and probably even into a film; however, these three short stories would make a fabulous foundation for a full series. I’d love to see Sanderson hand this off to Hollywood under the direction of his production team. I think you’d see many A list actors lining up to play Stephen Leed’s aspects.

Loved the book. It felt like a walk back through my childhood with a distopian future added in for good measure. The book would have been much better without the foul language. Artistic choice I suppose.

The book itself was well written and informative. The audio editing was almost non existent. I lost count how many times a paragraph was repeated. Although the narrator has a wonderful voice he doesn't change cadence enough to convey the full meaning which then made the repeating paragraphs almost fit and therefore all the more confusing. I doubt that the audio engineer listened to any chapters twice.

What disappointed you about Outlander?

The story spent WAY too much time writing about sex in detail.

What could Diana Gabaldon have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Leave out the smut.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The writing is good and interesting.
