Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Very entertaining
Revisado: 02-06-24
This is an exceptionally well thought out story, The performance is terrific, particularly during the dialogs between the protagonist Joe Bishop and the nearly omnipotent and sarcastic AI, Skippy! I laughed and snickered many times. Great fun.

Historia
Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.

This entire series is excellent. It is like watching one of the best Disney anime movies, great for children of all ages. The author has a terrific imagination. The cast is excellent, and particularly shines in the later audiobooks.

Historia
Every modern city has one week’s worth of food to feed itself. Then it will collapse. Cut off the resources to New York, Sydney, or even a mid-size metropolis, and millions will soon starve. In Zero Day Code we see those immense and open, hyper-complex, networked supercities of the new millennium die. And in the last moments we see their vengeance take form as all the best and worst traits of humanity bubble to the surface.

Terrific writing and audio performance
Revisado: 06-14-23
This review is for the entire Zero Day audiobook series, not just the first book. First off, narrator/performer Rupert Dega is amazing. He brings a believable vocal personality to each character, equal to the stellar Ray Porter. His delivery adds to the depth and color of the story.
Next, the writing is done from various character's viewpoints with definite distinctions in style of language for each character, each brought to life by Rupert Dega, further making listening pleasurable. Various witticisms made me laugh, although the subject matter was far from funny.
The premise of the book is believably based on our heavy dependence on the internet, and what would happen if major delivery systems (food, electricity, fuel, banking) were severely compromised to the point of long-term collapse by foreign hackers.
This is the first time I have written an extended review for an audiobook series. Having listened to many many audiobooks, I highly recommend this series to fans of this genre.

Historia
The eve of the Allied invasion of Europe. When American OSS agent Craig Osbourne is taken aboard a German E-boat off the coast of Brittany, he thinks that his war – and possibly his life – are over. But the Lili Marlene is actually operated by the Royal Navy out of an ultrasecret base on the English coast. And it will soon be returning Osbourne – a highly trained assassin – to occupied France. There, he will help the beautiful twin sister of a dead British agent infiltrate a German High Command briefing on the defense of the Atlantic Wall.

Jack Higgins' best novel?
Revisado: 10-26-22
Set in World War II in England and France, twin daughters with very different personalities and OSS operatives take center stage. Higgins shows the lengths unscrupulous men will use to help win the war. Self sacrifice, and the purposeful sacrifice of operatives makes the story more moving.

Historia
It's bad enough when someone you know is brutally murdered; it's worse when the guy was a paranoid schizophrenic helplessly bound to a wheelchair. Sam Acquillo and Jackie Swaitkowski tried to look after Alfie Aldergreen, as had others around the Village of Southampton, but now they were forced to wonder what else they could have done.

Revisado: 09-19-22
Listening in order, this is the best story yet. Memorably, there is a scathing insult to an RN hospital receptionist, a moving funeral speech about trust between warriors, and many clever bits of dialog that made me laugh out loud. The narrator also did his best so far.

Burt Reynolds as Narrator
Revisado: 05-13-22
Burt Reynolds is terrific as Spenser's voice, which as first person narrator is the bulk of the performance, but mostly terrible at the others. It is fun to imagine Reynolds as Spenser.
We get treated to a small look at Hawk's past in the second book.

Historia
Helena Pearson. Undeniably beautiful... indisputably rich... incredibly wanton... the perfect client for Travis McGee. He did a big favor for her husband and then for the lady herself. Now Helena is dead, and McGee finds out that she had one last request to make of him: find out why her beautiful daughter, Maurie, keeps trying to kill herself. So, half-convinced that Maurie needs a good doctor and not a devil-may-care beach bum, McGee makes his way to the prosperous town of Fort Courtney, Florida, a respectable, booming, deadly little place.

Historia
Mark Franklin came from the American West to Edwardian England with two long-barrelled .44s in his baggage and a fortune in silver in the bank. Where he had got it and what he was looking for no one could guess, although they wondered -- at Scotland Yard, in City offices, in the glittering theatreland of the West End, in the highest circles of Society (even King Edward was puzzled) and in the humble pub at Castle Lancing.

Don't miss 92 year old General Sir Harry Flashman
Revisado: 02-17-21
This is a must listen for Flashman fans. 92 year old General Sir Harry is not a major player, but he and his philosophy are not to be missed. Much of the story is slow, but we see a vivid picture of pre-WWI England. Butch Cassidy makes an appearance in a flashback as well.

Historia
It should have been a case like any other: a missing princess, a king willing to pay in gold for her return. But before he realizes it, private investigator Eddie LaCrosse, a slightly shopworn sword jockey with a talent for discretion and detection, is swept up in a web of mystery and deceit involving a brutally murdered royal heir, a queen accused of an unspeakable crime, and the tragic past he thought he'd left behind.

Love Louis L'Amour? This series is for you.
Revisado: 10-14-20
To me this series has the flavor of Louis L'Amour's Europe based (early Sackett) novels but with elves, dwarves, orcs, and mages. The magic is used as Deus Ex Machina, and does not overwhelm. The characters have depth and draw empathy.
