Life is good and a good life is possible.
Revisado: 12-13-22
I lived a mile from the airport the author learned to fly from, so she hopefully buzzed my neighborhood on occasion. I really like her perspective, not just as a pilot and a woman, but because of her positivity, drive, and great sense of humor. Her story of her various experiences learning to become a seasoned aviator kept me rapt and she made me laugh often. Wait til you hear her tell of the time she buzzed the plebes on the parade ground at West Point! I was scared listening to her tell of the time she got lost as a solo student pilot in a box canyon in the Rockies and was seconds from crashing into the side of a mountain before somehow recovering dragging a wheel over a pine tree clinging to the side of the mountain. I admire this lady and would be comfortable with her at the stick of any plane I was on. She can do things that I don’t have the courage to even contemplate. I really learned from her optimism and openness to life though. She knows about perseverance. This is a really good book and I unreservedly recommend it. It’s one of the best I’ve listened to this year and I’m very glad I chose it.

Best book of the last 3 years
Revisado: 04-10-21
Gripping all through. Definitely not chick lit. This author is conversant with pain endured during any life. She doesn’t shrink from it or cheaply use it. She created a damn good story and I’m grateful I came across it. As with any good literature, I will be smarter after listening to it. This book has my highest recommendation and I in eagerly await Ms. Johnson’s next book.

Historia
From the hero whistleblower of the infamous Theranos scam, Thicker than Water is a look at never-before-revealed details behind closed doors at the company, revealing a cautionary tale of corporate bullying, gaslighting, ego, and wealth running amok in Silicon Valley. Tyler Shultz had been in the workforce for less than a year when he emailed Elizabeth Holmes, his employer and the CEO and founder of Theranos, with concerns that the company’s lab practices were faulty, ignored quality control, and were potentially dangerous to patients.

What a great story. Fascinating. I have rarely been so impressed as i have been by the author, Tyler Shultz, who also narrated his book. Extraordinary courage and character that I rarely see. I admire him.
I can almost guarantee that you’ll love it as much as I.

Historia
There are only three things in this world that are certain: death, taxes, and babies. Nobody knows this truth better than Emily McCoy, a third-year resident working in Baby City, the affectionate nickname for the busy Labor and Delivery unit at a New York City hospital. On a typical day in Baby City, Emily delivers more babies than the number of hours of sleep she manages to squeeze in that night. And definitely more than the number of dates she's been on since she started her training in OB/GYN two years earlier.

Great story that could really be real
Revisado: 09-02-17
Interesting, funny and sad story thats true to life. Never worked in OB, but the life of the hospital, residents, patients , and attendings rings very true to life in my experience. The narrator is different and excellent and adds a punch to it all. I loved listening to her.
If you want a good story that's not BS based like TV and the the authors of "medical thrillers", this is it. This is the third time in a little more than a year that i am enjoying listening to this book. Dr Stoddard nailed it.

Don't Buy. Needs post production to be usable.
Revisado: 07-16-16
It's the narration. Repeating the same phrase 3 or 4 times with different intonations. 10 to 45 seconds of silence. Sniffing. Pauses with the narrator fiddling around. And these artifacts outnumber the actual story narrated. Aside from the annoyance, I just couldn't follow the story with all of those extras. Never heard anything so extremely inappropriate for something sold as a finished product. I can understand so extra sounds in an audiobook but it was so bad, I returned it. I cannot tell you what the story was about in the 20 minutes I tried to listen.

Historia
How did this rapid change of fortune come about? Peter Clarke's book is the first to analyze the abrupt transition from Rule Britannia to Pax Americana. His swift-paced narrative makes superb use of letters and diaries to provide vivid portraits of the figures around whom history pivoted: Churchill, Gandhi, Roosevelt, Stalin, Truman, and a host of lesser-known figures through whom Clarke brilliantly shows the human dimension of epochal events.

decent book, lousy narrator.
Revisado: 06-08-10
the narrarator has a rhythm that has his voice going high then low like he's in love with how he sounds. really annoying and distracting. not only that, but when he is in low mode he mumbles and becomes inaudible. i find myself anticipating the regular inaudible periods more than listening to book. I have 124 audiobooks. 1st time this problem. narrator ruins it for me.
