Historia
Hoss McMasters has a working ranch, a bull riding career, a nosy momma, and a best friend he's been in love with since he can remember. He's a busy, happy cowboy, living the good life. Then one morning he discovers a baby on his doorstep. Well, Hoss does what any reasonable man would do - he calls his momma and his buddy, Sheriff Pooter, and they head to the clinic to see if Doc knows of any suddenly not-so-pregnant girls.

I wasn’t sure what to feel about this book after I was done listening to it, or well, while I was listening to it. I just kept having to remind myself that it was a Dreamspun books and the tropes and storyline are generally a bit over the top. And this was over the top with cherries on top.
The storyline was cute and slightly finny is crude bodily function jokes are your thing. I did like that Hoss and Bradley called sex fight club so that they didn’t say sex in front of the baby. It was definitely a sweet out for you and friends to lovers romance with a cute baby and clueless men.
Also with it being a B.A. Tortuga cowboy book, there was bound to be lots of country speak and twang. Something closer to the old west televisions shows my mom likes to watch. Basically over the top. Sometimes this made it difficult to understand the narrator because as a girl who lives in Texas I don’t even hear people speak like that on the regular, so it took a bit to figure bits out.
Both characters were sweet and silly and sometimes dumb and gross. I feel like it was very much written as a cowboy romcom which is great if that’s what you are looking for. Their love for that little baby was a beautiful thing, and I thought it brought out a side of them we probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise. I love the relationship between Bradley and Hoss since friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes.

I happened to read this book when it came out and even reviewed it here at Diverse Reader. I am just as impressed with the story after listening to it as I was after reading it. The characters in this story are ones that I’ve often thought back on, the special moments that have always stuck with him and being to revisit them again after all these months was great. They are just as strong characters as I remember and I immediately was drawn into the story.
You give me a story like this one, that has two characters who each are their own person, who have a personality that draws me in, a heart that gets me to care, a passion that keeps me on the edge of my seat...you give me those things, like KC Burns did in this story, and you'll have me hooked for the journey of getting to the HEA.
Dallas came from privilege, but it was the opposite of the life he wanted. He was drowning in that life. Hospitalizations and being kicked out by his family he runs to his brother, Stefan. His doubt and uncertainty in that relationship was clear right from the start, and I broke a little bit for him.
Will, on the other hand, lost his job, and his boyfriend blames Dallas for where he is now. Working at a porn studio. But what got me about him was his fear of losing it all again. Trying to do it all is killing him, but he refuses to back down.
Then Dallas was thrown into his lap, and he has no choice but tries to make the best of it, but to him, that’s avoidance at all costs.
The heat between those two guys was off the freaking charts. The UST was short lived with Will’s anger being the spark that ignites them. And man can they light the sheets up! Or the desk, the server room, the storage room. You name it; they made it hot. Dallas had a way of pushing Will. Sometimes slow and measured, sometimes with a kick in the pants. He needed to win Will over, not just in the job but in romance as well. And he knew he needed to be strong to stand tall for that fight. Will fought it, and feared it, and wanted it all the same.
David Ross is a really great job with these characters. I love a narrator that can show me who the characters are through the tone and voice alone and he succeeded in doing just that. His flow and pacing were spot on. It was my first time listening to him, and it won't be the last. David really added some layers to the story which is one of the things I love about audiobooks.

Historia
Most people think EMT Jaime Escobar is a player, but the truth is he wants a serious partner - he just can't justify wasting time on guys he knows aren't a match. But when he treats a gorgeous redhead after a fight, he finds the spark he's spent so many years looking for. Jaime wants to take the next step with Tate, but it's clear Tate's not going to curb his impulsive behavior - his next fight sends him to the hospital. Jaime's relationship with a near criminal isn't something his family is ready to accept, not any more than Tate is willing to be kept a secret.

Holy moly I loved these guys! Like, couldn’t get enough of listening to this book.
Tate was freaking fantastic. His personality could seem sometimes abrasive to some, but to me, it was low self-esteem brought on by his family and disability. He was bright and sweet and a firecracker. Jaime was everything. He was sure and strong and a little sad, but he loved with every part of himself. Family, friends, and eventually Tate.
They were this perfect balance. They each needed something the other gave, and the rocky part of their relationship only made the story better. It wasn’t over the top or underwhelming. They played off each other like planets revolving around the sun. When one made this move the other made a coordinating move. But in more of a romancey sexy cute way and not a scientific way LOL.
And once again the heat level in KC Burn’s books are fire and heat and everything sweet. There was purpose and want and emotion in every one of the sexy time scenes. They weren’t just there to be there. I like sex in my books as much as the next reader, but I do love when they serve a purpose and not just kinky filler.
The secondary characters were great, especially Jaime’s family. They didn’t play a huge role, and at one point I thought I was going to end up hating Jaime’s mom, but luckily for her, I didn’t because I had a couple of slaps saved up just in case.
David Ross did an even better job on these two guys than he did on the last one! Each guy was unique, and I was sad when the story was over. I’m not sure if there are any more books coming out for this series but if there are and David Ross is narrating I’ll be waiting in line to listen.

Narrator: Robert Neiman
Out of the series this one was the hardest to read. Watching the homophobia these two men had to endure at from their peers was terrible. But what made it worse was the lack of trust that Collin had in the people around him and in the relationship he had with Tanner. Insecurity in yourself can have terrible consequences and ripple out in your life and for Collin every hit they took was one against him, not one that they needed to handle together.
Once again Robert Neiman added to the extreme emotions that went through Collin during this story and handle each thought and spoken word with what it exactly needed at that moment. There are just some narrators whose style or voice are built for certain stories or characters and I couldn’t imagine listening to this series without the intimacy and emotion that Robert gave these guys.
Also this continues to be one of my favorite series out there, one that I’ve have read over and over again. And now one that I can listen to over and over and be even more impressed with her characters and stories then I ever was before.

I have loved so many of Lane Hayes books so getting to listen to my first audiobook I jumped on the chance of it being a book I know that I loved of hers. I mean who doesn’t love Will and Rand?! Now as I said this was my first audiobook since typically I like “hearing” them from my own internal voice than someone else’s but Seth Clayton really changed that for me in this book!
Seth has the ability to give every character a unique voice, one that fits the character perfectly! We all go through what we think a character's looks like or sounds ike and sometimes it's hard to move past our own personal views. But this narrator was able to give me a voice to each character that had fit that character. My favorite was George because, oh wow, was that voice spot on!
What giving the listener such a varied amount of voices does is creates a better more complete story because now we can take our visuals and the sounds of their voices and really get a full picture of each scene and even more so the emotion that is being played in that scene. When Will chuckled at Rand over the furniture store scene or Rand’s emotion bleeding through his voice when Will was leaving or just the overall voice he gave Rand or Benny added a layer to connecting with the characters that I didn't have before. All of it just gave me a better love of these characters and this story.
I will definitely be looking for more of his narrations in the future and really hope Lane Hayes continues to use for this series and maybe others!
