Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Fantastic story, fantastic voices!
Revisado: 12-02-23
This is an amazing story. It’s a fantastically complex story that pulls together a lot of the biggest issues we’re working thru today. And the voice acting is second to none.

I can see why it was accepted into canon
Revisado: 04-10-23
Let’s start with this: this is fan fiction that was accepted into canon. But it’s pretty entertaining. It ties things together (maiybe a little too neatly), but if you liked the series and you want to see what might have been from the point of view of Tianming, then this is the book for you.

Revisado: 08-22-22
This is a nice sermon delivered by a preacher delivered in a very preach style. I just wasn’t looking for a sermon. I was looking for a book on making better decisions.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Funny, fascinating, and just plain fantastic
Revisado: 01-30-22
If you loved The Martian, you’ll love this. Andy Weir is at his best, with his brand of engineering and science walkthroughs mixed with comedy. There are times that this gets in the way, especially when it feels that some characters go out of character for the sake of comedy. But this is forgivable given the great story.
My wife and I listened to this in the car together, traveling cross-country, and its cast of characters was welcome companion.
Highly recommended.

Best Book in the Series
Revisado: 12-22-21
Title says it all: I’ve enjoyed the series, with the first 2 books being my favorites until now. This was fantastic, and I loved the ending. The reader was also fantastic, as he has been through the series.

Voice performances are fine? But stories are mostly bland
Revisado: 12-04-21
This collection of superhero stories covers angles not normally covered in other superhero stories: the people who impersonate heroes, and the people who fall for it; the societies under the rule of a supervillain ruler; the death of a hero whose body won’t let them die.
The problem is the writing itself. It’s almost too serious, too dramatic. Some of the stories were marvelous, like the one about a girl who found herself in a hotel with super heroes and dentists, looking to meet what she thought was a hero, written in the style of a confession letter. Others were so focused in their descriptions they slowdown the actual story, with the focus being more the world than the people in it.
All in all, it’s a hit-or-miss with lots of misses.

Excellent Radio Play!
Revisado: 12-01-21
This story is effectively a radio play: all narrative is expressed through conversation, and there’s no disembodied narrator. It’s just a set of conversations.
The voice acting is excellent, and the story is a lot of fun, if you enjoy stories about genius scientists, robots, and family.
All in all, an excellent listen.

Magnificent series
Revisado: 10-14-21
Great voice actor, great story, great characters. Worth your time and dime. This story does what super hero stories do best: tackle on actual social issues through a lens allowing people from all walks of like to experience a side of reality they’ve never explored. It’s great how this story uses gender and sex fluidity as a central part of the plot.

Maybe the best book since the first couple.
Revisado: 08-30-20
Book 8 is supposed to be the final book in the series. If that’s the case, then they ended with a bang. The story is of a far different quality than the original book—where the original was Aliens meets Noir, this is pretty much straight military scifi—but it’s obviously the same great story world.
My only concern: if this is supposed to be the last book, why are there so many unanswered questions left? Or maybe they’re answered, and I just don’t like the answers.
Either way, if you like the series you’ll love the ending. But be sure to catch all the novellas, too: they play heavily into this.

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

Fascinating biography marred by inconsistent recording.
Revisado: 05-20-20
The reviews for the biography itself speak for themselves. I won’t add to them further.
I will note that a good biography with an excellent performance by the reader was marred by inconsistencies in the sound engineering. I believe you can tell when there were sections re-recorded: the sound goes from a very full, natural sound to something that sounded like it was recorded with a cheaper microphone and then gated down to a paper thin timbre.
Still worth listening, but this took me out of the story many times, because it happened FREQUENTLY.
