It begins at Nykoping Castle, Sweden, 1291. King Magnus is dead and his three young sons—Birger (11), Erik (9), and Valdemar (8)—await the arrival of the appointed Regent of Sweden, a powerful noble and celebrated warrior who will teach them the arts of governing, knighthood, and skills of war until the young king, Birger, comes of age. Under his tutelage, Erik, the middle child, will show himself to be the most intelligent and skillful of the three; Valdemar, the youngest, will look on in admiration while the fledgling king will bridle with jealousy.

Strong storyline
Revisado: 03-14-24
I loved the story. The characters were well developed, causing strong feelings about them.
The narrator read the book in a most distracting way that I often laughed at the awful voices and misplaced inflections that misrepresented moods or emotions.
The great story kept me hanging in.

Historia
Cassie McDowell’s life in 1980s Minnesota seems perfectly wholesome. She lives on a farm, loves school, and has a crush on the nicest boy in class. Yes, there are her parents’ strange parties and their parade of deviant guests, but she’s grown accustomed to them. All that changes when someone comes hunting in Lilydale. One by one, local boys go missing. One by one, they return changed - violent, moody, and withdrawn. What happened to them becomes the stuff of shocking rumors. The accusations of who’s responsible grow just as wild, and dangerous town secrets start to surface.

Easy listen good story.
Revisado: 02-05-23
I will often choose simple books to listen to, in between my big epic stories. This fit the bill. It had a storyline that was easy enough to follow and keep my brain occupied at the same time.

Historia
Moments after Lisbeth is born, she’s taken from her mother and handed over to an enslaved wet nurse, Mattie, a young mother separated from her own infant son in order to care for her tiny charge. Thus begins an intense relationship that will shape both of their lives for decades to come. Though Lisbeth leads a life of privilege, she finds nothing but loneliness in the company of her overwhelmed mother and her distant, slave-owning father.

Well told story.
Revisado: 07-27-22
I thoroughly enjoyed the entire story and devoured it rather quickly.
I loved listening to the narrator’s voice and cadence she read. I
appreciated the well developed characters. While the subject was horribly uncomfortable, the story was not told in an unnecessarily graphic way. There was plenty of detail to get the point across. The theme of love and loss, and faith throughout the entire tale.

The land of Terre d'Ange is a place of unsurpassed beauty and grace. The inhabiting race rose from the seed of angels and men, and they live by one simple rule: Love as thou wilt. Phèdre nó Delaunay was sold into indentured servitude as a child. Her bond was purchased by a nobleman, the first to recognize that she is one pricked by Kushiel's Dart, chosen to forever experience pain and pleasure as one.

Kushiel’s Legacy my first choice....
Revisado: 03-10-18
To listen yo when I signed up for Audible. I had already read the first three books two or more times. I really looked forward to listening to it and hearing how to properly pronounce many of the names and places that I was certain I was butchering.
At first I didn’t think I was going to enjoy the narrator, but once I became accustomed to her I got lost in the stories.
Off to book three I go.
