Historia
An estimated 47 million Americans identify as having an anxious attachment style, which can make being in relationships turbulent and emotionally taxing for them. According to groundbreaking research in the field of attachment, anxious types are more prone to insecurity, jealousy, codependency, and other behaviors that get in the way of finding and sustaining love.

A Fabulous Game Changer!!!
Revisado: 08-09-23
My husband, who leans avoidant, and I, who leans anxious ambivalent, thoroughly love this book! We appreciate the clarity, insight, examples, humility, hopefulness and somatic approach that the author shares. It is a kind of North star of guidance and we definitely plan to re-listen to it. Many aspects are relevant, it is a gem, and we love that the author reads it. Bravo & Thank you!

Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Ah, Much Appreciated!
Revisado: 06-11-23
I will take the author’s sage advice and jot down a review in the moment, rather than wait for the perfect opportunity to write a more polished review. I really enjoyed this book. It reminds me a bit, and this would be a compliment, of Iain McGilchrist’s writing and delivery. This title is one I will share with friends and I will likely re-listen because it’s rich with depth and wisdom. Thank you to Oliver Burkeman, I especially appreciate books narrated by the author as it adds congruence. And your book is a gem.

And how can even small changes greatly improve our relationships? In Every Family Has a Story, bestselling psychotherapist Julia Samuel turns from her acclaimed work with individuals to draw on her sessions with a wide variety of families, across multiple generations. Through eight beautifully told and insightful case studies, she analyzes a range of common issues—and how much can be healed when it is faced together.

I truly have enjoyed this book, I love Julia’s narration, and I plan to listen to more of her books. For me, she is a trusted voice. I found this book to be unique and wise and I’d like the different case histories. Many kudos to Julia. I’m glad I didn’t let critical reviews dissuade me. I am thankful to have listened to it.

This is a much-needed perspective
Revisado: 03-19-23
I like that the author narrates it and that she mentions her ADHD & neurodiversity upfront. The book is clear, credibie and shows the author's evolving confidence and authenticity on a sticky complex subject.
I like the reframes of chores into care tasks, the shortcut option is clever tho I didn't use it because I wanted to hear every word.
I like the how to's and I would have liked more on how to decide on what to discard to make room so stuff can actually have a home.
This book is more than how to's, it dives far deeper into intangibles. In that area I would have liked more on how a traumatized nervous system shapes identity and how even mild chronic survival stress states impact a person's executive ability to organize & function.
Overall the book is rooted in self-compassion and I greatly appreciated that. Bravo!

Historia
At its heart, polyvagal theory describes how the brain's unconscious sense of safety or danger impacts our emotions and behaviors. In this powerful book, pediatrician and neonatologist Marilyn R. Sanders and child psychiatrist George S. Thompson offer both a meditation on caregiving and a call to action. By attending to the lessons of polyvagal theory—that adult caregivers must be aware of children's unconscious processing of sensory information—the authors show how professionals can play a critical role in establishing a sense of safety even in the face of dangerous situations.

I love learning about polyvagal theory and this book is one of the best. Regardless of the title it has broad application for a large audience. I am neither a parent nor a health professional and I have gained so much from it. Thank you doctors and all who have contributed to this book. I am so grateful to Dr Porges and Deb Dana for their foundational contributions. Polyvagal Theory and the Developing Child is really excellent and aspirational. I will replay it again and again to hear the gems. Thank you and bravo!!! Onward toward a more polyvagal informed society.. . . . .

I endured it...
Revisado: 06-24-11
The author has done her homework. She presents many references worthy of tracking down, but for me it was too broad and over-written. Too many topics, too many references, and too much overly descriptive language made it a taxing example of overchievement.
