Good idea, bad writing, an OK narration
Revisado: 08-31-23
Despite many bad reviews, I've decided to give this book a try. Mostly because of the preview (the story seemed interesting), and it's 38 hours for one credit. I have suffered through half of it so far, and I don't think I'll be able to finish this listen. The writing is just bad. I mean everything: dialog, character/world development and story progression are all poorly written. The narration isn't great, either.
It is especially hard to listen to it after some of the much better series like "Cradle," "Defiance of the Fall", "The primal hunter", and many others. In short, after wasting almost 20 hours of my time on it, I can't recommend spending even one credit on this book.

Great story, Excellent narration
Revisado: 06-19-23
This is the second time this trilogy was published on Audible. The first time it was narrated by Will Wight (author). Personally, I like this second edition more. Also, like Cradle series, the more attention you’ll pay for the story, the more you’ll enjoy it. Overall great story and excellent narration. Definitely worth a credit.

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Brilliant start to a new series. Not a Lit-RPG, but an epic coming of magic series that takes place in a modern day and age. Filled with humor, action, and masterfully written dialog. Definitely worth a credit. My only regret is that We’ll have to wait months to find out what happens next.

Excellent series, don't mind negative reviews
Revisado: 09-06-20
This review is for the whole Spiral Wars series, not just the first book. When I've read the review about "politics," I've added this book to my wish list and pretty much forgot about it. Facing the "silence of the road" a year or so later, I've decided to give it a try. And I'm glad I did.
The story is exciting and evolving in every book. Obvious facts become questionable, and then just plain wrong, as the story progresses.
The "alien politics" are an essential part of this series. It holds the story together and helps understand the cause and effect of everything happening in the story. I was afraid that current politics and social views would find its way and ruin the story, but that never happened. At least not in the "in your face" way that some other books do. For that, I thank the author. Also, it adds depth to the story. Perhaps, the fact that the author has a degree in political science may have something to do with it.
A word about John Lee (the narrator): I've listened to several books narrated by him and grew to dislike his narration. To me, he sounds too pompous. That said, he is perfect for this series. Despite my initial doubts, I have very much enjoyed his narration here.
Overall - this is a five stars series. Give it a try, and you won't be disappointed.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Revisado: 05-21-15
I've seen this title in the best 100 books ever written list, and now I understand why. This by any measure is NOT a light book, but one that'll make you think for quite some time after you're done with it.
Narration is excellent. Made me forget where I was, more then once.
Overall, if you haven't read it yet, I'd consider it a "Must Read".

Any additional comments?
If you think of buying your first bonsai tree, or you're simply curious of what bonsai is all about - this book is for you. Excellently written, it is very short and to the point, all you need to know before... type of book. ALL the information presented is essential, and there's absolutely no "watery" paragraphs that you can skip.
Starting from bonsai history, to tools, styles, and best practices - it covers a lot of material, and is very well structured. If you've never had a pleasure of growing your own bonsai tree, this book will most likely answer all your questions (and probably force you towards starting a new hobby).
This book is NOT: An in-depth guide for a professional or an experienced bonsai artist.
Overall: Excellent book, well worth the money. Would definitely recommend.

The second worst book in my library (400+ titles)
Revisado: 04-18-13
What disappointed you about Dress Code?
The "facts" presented in this book, are fictitious to say the least. The author wrote about things she think she knows, but doesn't. It is like hearing what other people say about other countries they've never been in. And then combine all this "knowledge" into a book.Mix it with "Oh, I'm So Important", then sprinkle it with "Only I know what's best for you", and you'll have the idea of what this book is all about.
Has Dress Code turned you off from other books in this genre?
Of course not. I like fashion. Fashion is fun, and anyone, at some point in life, has to find his or hers style (or suffer the consequences :-). I would absolutely love to listen to a GOOD book in this genre.
How could the performance have been better?
The author wynes about her hard life and her childhood for a good first half of this book. I mean at some point she actually starts sobbing... The only option for me to "get out" of this sobbing was to skip to the next chapter, or turn it off completely. You however, have a third option - Do Not purchase this book!
Any additional comments?
The only purpose, I believe, this book was written for - is an advertisement of the author services. There are many books of this sort have been written lately. Few of them I've read. A good book is a very good advertisement indeed. But a poorly written one will fire back. I think it is a common knowledge, that any person, who thinks of him/herself as a writer should posses.

From elicitation, pretexting, influence and manipulation all aspects of social engineering are picked apart, discussed and explained by using real world examples, personal experience and the Science & Technology behind them to unraveled the mystery in social engineering. Kevin Mitnick - one of the most famous social engineers in the world - popularized the term social engineering. He explained that it is much easier to trick someone into revealing a password than to exert the effort of hacking.

Very nice introduction to social engineering
Revisado: 09-11-12
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
I wanted an introductory book into social engineering, and this book does this job perfectly. There is an explanation of all the sides of the art, and direction for further info if you're interested to dive deeper into anything in particular.
Many examples / real stories makes this listen even easier to follow. Would recommend this audio to anyone.
Additionally, I've discovered that like most people, I was stupid enough to have the same password / user-name on many sites. And how easy it is for anyone (unfriendly, or just bored) to mess up my life. Well, not anymore... or at least not that easy. That alone definitely worth a "credit".

In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

Great surprise, and very good listen!
Revisado: 05-25-12
If you could sum up Atlas Shrugged in three words, what would they be?
must-have-education (for any age), but especially for young adults.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
First the narration is great. Second, my drive to work, and then back takes roughly an hour. And it was most pleasurable 2 hours a day, that I've had for some time now.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, in a sense of how interesting the story is. And: no, because, (apart from the book length) it takes time to absorb all the philosophical ideas presented in this book. Also, there is nothing new, but a common sense, and a great story. :-)

Here is a minor classic of the Orient. It is perhaps the most entertaining, most charming explanation and interpretation of traditional Japanese culture in terms of the tea ceremony. First published in 1906, it traces the custom from its roots in Taoism to its role as a Zen meditative discipline.

This book is like soul with no body...
Revisado: 03-03-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. This book is not about tea, nor Japanese tea ceremony, or anything else physically linked to tea as a drink. But this book may begin to teach you about a mindset required, in order to begin to understand Japanese tea ceremony. Sounds complicated? It's not. Read the book, you'll know what I mean. :-)
Would you be willing to try another book from Kazuko Okakura and E. F. Bleiler (introduction) ? Why or why not?
Probably not.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Sort of... but personally I didn't liked the narration very much.
Could you see The Book of Tea being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Not applicable.
