Why curse?

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 06-16-08

Why was the wife cursing? It made no sense.
And what in the world was the sex about in this book. Ill timed, and made no sense according to the emotion of the scenes and points in the story.
Very disappointed in this solo effort. I was drawn to it because he co wrote a book with Patterson, but clearly he is not ready. Gross tries to force twists and gets repetitive and overly descriptive. I did not have that big of a problem with the narrator, she is okay, it is the story that drives you nuts rather than the voice.

Slow

Definitely not fast paced. Starts in one place and takes 4 hours to come back to it. And the tie ins are a stretch. I am used to James Patterson, that is fast paced, this was slow motion. Far too much character study and no follow up to the energetic beginning.
By the time you get to the conclusion you have almost forgotten who.

Raw and reaching

Inventive story in terms of the central figure in Jermaine. However, the leaps of emotion and illogical thought processes do not fit the character.
Writing is decent and smooth. There is a flow to the story, but you will find yourself sucking your teeth on some of the typical reactions, too soap opera, TV talk showish. Should have been a little more sophisticated.
My biggest issue with the book has nothing to do with the story at all. Whoever published.produced this audio version cut too many corners and pinched too many pennies. I can hear the reader breathing. There are unexplained pauses in the reading, you expect to hear the chapter read out, but the story just continues. The production is terrible and at times a real distraction from the book.

So You Call Yourself a Man Part 2 Audiolibro Por Carl Weber arte de portada

Questionable

Total
1 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-16-07

The only good part are the twist in the story. The characters are unrealistic and that made the book annoying.
This is a story about men alledgedly from the different men's perspectives, but the author made their thoughts and actions too feminine. He attempts to draw us in and paint us a picture of each man accordingly but ultimately they come off closer to women with deep voices rather than men with various problems.
I have asked my sister in law and wife to listen to the story because I may be too much of a "man" to relate to this and it is possible the author was targeting a female audience, and that is why his characters are the way they are? I am not sure.
You may listen and think it funny and entertaining because it has its moments, but the estrogen driven emotions of the men in this story did not work for me.
