Historia
In an opulent mansion at the borders of the Empire, an Imperial officer lies dead - killed when a tree spontaneously erupted from his body. Even here, where contagions abound and the blood of the Leviathans works strange magical changes, it's a death at once terrifying and impossible. Called in to solve the crime is Ana Dolabra, an investigator whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricity. At her side is her new assistant, Dinios Kol, an engraver, magically altered to possess a perfect memory.

I normally would never go for something like this. But what a joy!
My biggest compliments to the narrator! He really bought the characters to life. Especially the protagonists, just so entertaining!
The storyline is a but difficult to follow at times- there are so many abstract names and places, it's hard to remember them all. I read an online summary after which helped. So I will definitely listen to this again sometime (something I ordinarily would never consider). This seems to be a really well constructed and thought out story. There are endless plots and twists, and you literally only get to the true bottom of the rabbit hole right at the last chapter. I'm very impressed! Well done!

So incredibly disappointing
Revisado: 03-15-25
I loved the Expanse. However, I did notice a similar trend with the later Expanse books, they got more and more bloated with descriptions, world building and meaningless meandering. I'm 7 chapters in and this book is unbearable. It is just endless waffling, and inches forward at a snails pace. There is so little story line going on, I can't even tell you what it's about. All of that bloated meandering is obviously an attempt to balance out the lack of story telling. This is thoroughly boring. Extremely disappointing. Looks like fame got to Corey's head and he's totally forgotten how to write a captivating plot. Jefferson Mays as always is really great, but even there, is he subconsciously getting fatigued by the same endless meandering?

Historia
For all its successes, mainstream medicine has failed to make much progress against the diseases of ageing that kill most people: heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and type 2 diabetes. Too often, it intervenes with treatments too late, prolonging lifespan at the expense of quality of life. Dr Peter Attia, the world's top longevity expert who is featured on Chris Hemsworth's National Geographic documentary Limitless, believes we must replace this outdated framework with a personalised, proactive strategy for longevity.

Bloated with boring personal anecdotes then bloated with endless doctor talk.
Revisado: 03-27-24
I bet this author is a compete narcissist. All of his personal biographical meanderings are boarding as hell and come across as nothing more than an ego writing.
With regards to the useful content of the book, even the author states something on the lines of; I'm not going to teach you what to think but how to think. However, 1 chapter later you get swamped with chemistry jargon and doctor talk. it quickly became unlistenable. Took a refund.
Unless you are in the medical profession, don't waste your time!

Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Tedious
Revisado: 12-08-23
For the protagonist nepotism trumps any merit- ugh! 4 full chapters are just endless "I must be dreaming...", "I must be hallucinating...". That is 10% of the book- repetitive waffle! Even once the story gets going its still boring. I read and listen to a lot of sci-fi and I had to quit this about 1/3rd in for a refund. Nothing original. Van is unlikable. Perry is the only somewhat entertaining character, yet he is only an AI and not a real person (too similar in sarcasm to Skippy of Expeditionary Force). I'm guessing this is targeted at young teens who are not well read? The narrator doesn't help lift the book either. I cant believe so many people have listened to this and liked it.

Overly complicated with too many themes
Revisado: 04-23-20
Aliens, gangsters, Russian spies, and even zombies!
There are some great parts to this book but it ultimately fails with too many themes and it ends up being just too a weird mix of things. The authors have tried to be creative incorporating all these themes, but somewhat fail in the story telling. It has it's moments now and again, but just gets a bit much at times. I don't think I will be pursuing the sequel.

Revisado: 07-23-18
Many popular and recent scientific concepts used through out the book. Reminded me of the Martian a bit with the mechanical approach to solving many problems, but way more fun and varying problems and back drops. I'm really pleased to have found this really smart and creative author!

Historia
Captain Jackson Wolfe never thought he'd see the end of the Phage War in his lifetime. The enemy was too powerful, too numerous, and utterly determined to exterminate humanity. But the appearance of a new ally in the fight has changed all of that. For the first time since the original incursion, Wolfe thinks that maybe there's a chance to stop their implacable enemy before they have the chance to wipe out any more human planets.

Boring, long, poor narration, couldn't finish it
Revisado: 10-21-16
Characters are completely one dimensional .
The story is completely flawed (spoiler alert) ;
the moon explodes, but there is no massive explosion or even debris that hits the earth.
The pieces of the moon just huddle together for 2 years, to give the Earth time to prepare.
Then suddenly the pieces start moving away from each other drifting to hit earth.
During the 2 year preparation nobody on earth thinks that the "Ark" space ships should not be placed in orbit between the moon debris and the earth. Instead they orbit the earth and then have to deal with the incoming debris.
I am sure this book was targeted at an audience who liked The Martian - a Sci fi story involving problem solving with practical scientific ideas. This book is so long winded and boring it completely fails in that regard. Mostly because the "problems" are completely unbelievable and irrational to start off with, stemming from bad planning rather than unpredictability or suspense.
The female narrator is poor. Trying to pull off gruff men voices is annoying.
I'm half way through this and have to stop it is so tedious.
I am a big Sci fi fan and have listened to many books. This has been the first one I have genuinely not liked at all from the start and is the first Audible book I have been unable to finish.
Absolute junk, spare yourself wasting your time.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.
