Dive into the mysteries of Area X, a remote and lush terrain that has inexplicably sequestered itself from civilization. Twelve expeditions have gone in, and not a single member of any of them has remained unchanged by the experience - for better or worse.

Interesting story held back by stilted, meandering narration delivery.
Revisado: 01-03-24
I've tried several times to come back to this book, but I've never made it past the 3rd chapter. The narration just doesn't flow well... as someone who has done V.O. work (and audio editing) for years, this narration comes across as rather amateur, sounding as though the narrator was reading the story for the first time as she recorded, never going back to re-delivery the lines in a more natural-sounding way.

A fairly brief yet engaging tale.
Revisado: 11-14-23
While it's shorter than many of the books I tend to listen to, I'm certainly glad to have given it a listen. It's definitely the sort of story which (thankfully) chooses to leave room for your own imagination rather than plainly dictating every character's thoughts and intentions. Definitely a well written (and even better performed) story that knew when to end before growing too long-in-the-tooth. ;-)

A thrilling and beautiful tale
Revisado: 08-22-23
A tad long-winded at times, but ultimately a delightful and riveting story fraught with anxiety and courage in equal measure. A splendid fantasy world encompasses (and insightfully depicts) deeper real-world issues in a powerful and poignant way. I'll definitely be recommending this book to friends and family.
Ultimately, it does exactly what all great stories do - puts you into the shoes of another person and allows you to experience the world through their eyes and with their thoughts and feelings. And in this case in particular, it's an experience more people in the world today would benefit from having. Thankfully, it's an immensely enjoyable experience.

Historia
Raine can see—and speak—to the dead, a gift that comes with a death sentence. All her life she has hidden, lied, and run to save her skin, and she’s made some spectacularly bad choices along the way. But it is a rare act of kindness—rescuing an injured woman in the snow—that becomes the most dangerous decision Raine has ever made. Dangerous because the woman is fleeing from Redwinter, the fortress-monastery of the Draoihn, warrior magicians who answer to no king, and who will stop at nothing to reclaim what she’s stolen.

The book I've wished for
Revisado: 01-26-23
This book has pretty much literally everything I could want in it:
- Clever, novel, thoroughly thought-out system of magic
- Flawed-but-uniquely-talented characters
- Elements of suspense
- A solidly written/established plotline which anchors everything firmly into place
- and even a dash of Eldritch horror
As always, Damian Lynch nails the delivery.
Will absolutely be recommending this to everyone I know.

A very satisfying payoff for what were a trio of rather good books set in an enthralling fantasy land.
