hard to relate to
Revisado: 02-26-22
it is hard to relate to the struggles of the privileged woman in this book. "financial ruin" of someone who buys a world-round plane ticket and sells two houses in two countries isn't someone that share my knitting journey.

Historia
Project Animal Farm provides a riveting and revealing look at what truly happens behind farm doors, as discovered by a fearless young woman. Sonia Faruqi, a 25-year-old Ivy League graduate and investment banker, had no idea that the night she arrived at the doorstep of an organic dairy farm would mark the beginning of a journey that would ultimately wind all the way around the world. Instead of turning away from the animal cruelty she would come to witness, Sonia made the most courageous decision of her life.

Author lied to get the story
Revisado: 03-05-21
It would have been a five star book except the author lied that she was an ag student to take advantage of people's trust to write about their farms. Although I believe our food system has many flaws, taking advantage of the hard working farmers is just as loathsome as it perpetuates secrecy and resistance to open up about the farming industry. This just puts animal welfare further into danger.

Historia
Mary Lennox starts her life as an unhappy victim of circumstance. After the loss of her parents, she moves to rural Yorkshire to live with a distant uncle where she resents the wildness of the countryside. At first, she struggles to find a place in this new existence. Although unsure about her surroundings and its occupants, through the gentle guidance of the maid she gradually becomes interested in the story of Mrs Craven, who apparently used to spend her time in a garden at the house, the key to which has vanished.

Historia
Some people's lives are entirely their own creations. James Rebanks' isn't. He's the first son of a shepherd who was the first son of a shepherd himself; his family have lived and worked in the Lake District of Northern England for generations, further back than recorded history. It's a part of the world known mainly for its romantic descriptions by Wordsworth and the much-loved illustrated children's books of Beatrix Potter. But James' world is quite different. His way of life is ordered by the seasons and the work they demand.

a very elite viewpoint that lacks any organization
Revisado: 01-13-21
It is unfortunate the author's view is that only sheepherders have any business owning sheep considering their livelihoods are in rapid decline. It seems an opportunity to draw new enthusiasm from a new generation was lost by the negative, elite tone of the author. Also, the book is horribly rambling for someone who is supposedly so well educated in writing.

an interesting account of one llama
Revisado: 12-05-20
I enjoyed this book for its information about a family's experience with a llama. it leaves you hanging at the end, so I wanted to hear about the rest of the llama's time on the farm.

Historia
In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident—unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes—have led to decades of speculation over what really happened.

narrator lacks life
Revisado: 07-24-19
although the horribly monotone narrator failed to bring life to any part of the book, the story was good, well researched, and had a plausible, scientifically based conclusion that I appreciated. it would be a good book to read yourself rather than be distracted by the narrator
