Had to listen straight to the end
Revisado: 08-17-16
What did you love best about Behind Closed Doors?
This suspense novel was extraordinary as it was the very first book I literally could not stop listening to until the very end. Listened through the night and all the next day. Grabbed me from the start and although it couldn't be considered a literary masterpiece, the writer developed the characters and the story and plot line was so addicting that it was an unusual debut novel. I felt as though I really knew and understood the characters, despite some rather unbelievable story lines that rendered characters who acted and responded to the entire novel as it progressed in ways that the writer was able to convince me, as a reader/listener were not as far fetched as I might have felt. The writers ability to bring some very bizarre and difficult subject matter as portrayed by the characters as believable and convincing, despite the unusually dark and full of twists that seem to come out of nowhere. Yet this was one reads I could not stop listening. Had to find out what happened next etc until the ending which made it a most interesting listen.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Behind Closed Doors?
Last conversation about whether the color of Millie's room was red or not.
Have you listened to any of Georgia Maguire’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No but I will certainly see what else she has narrated. Did a fantastic (a perfect creepy job in places) performance with the various characters she had to portray.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Didn't laugh or cry but gave me the creeps several times and had to put it on pause a few times briefly, although always returned to listening soon despite some questions I had to ask myself as I listened to this most unusual book.
Any additional comments?
Recommend it for anyone who enjoys suspense with an extra kick and some dark and disturbing subject matter that will stick with you long after you have finished it.

A complete waste of time
Revisado: 07-02-16
What was most disappointing about Cris Beam’s story?
The author/narrator read with flat, rapid speech and the entire book was so lacking in any emotion or any real story to tell. A series of statements about her mother and the relationship that was sad but sounded like a "pity party". It was that impossible for me to listen more than a couple of minutes at a time and never I jumped forward through the chapters hoping for something to improve. No story. Very self indulgent, yet a sad ranting by a woman who obviously has had a rough time.
Any additional comments?
Very disappointing and sorry for having bothered to purchase and listen to it at all. Don't recommend this book at all. Nothing worthwhile to warrant time and effort.

Historia
Though Anderson Cooper has always considered himself close to his mother, his intensely busy career as a journalist for CNN and CBS affords him little time to spend with her. After she suffers a brief but serious illness at the age of ninety-one, they resolve to change their relationship by beginning a yearlong conversation unlike any they have ever had before. The result is a correspondence of surprising honesty and depth in which they discuss their lives, the things that matter to them, and what they still want to learn about each other.

Haunting Life
Revisado: 05-24-16
What did you love best about The Rainbow Comes and Goes?
I was very much surprised and impressed at the picture of Gloria Vanderbilt that emerges in this book. A conversation with her son, Anderson Cooper, is honest, gritty and shows the relationship between mother and son. A lot is learned about both, and the strength and guts this woman has certainly painted a new picture for me. Gloria Vanderbilt has endured more pain and loss than I ever imagined, beginning with the loss of her mother as a result of a custody trial, dubbed the "Trial of the Century". She has endured and survived and come out on top. But her eyes have a haunting look that tells the story. There are so many unbelievable events covered in this book that it is hard to believe it is not fiction. This book, along with the documentary on HBO done by Liz Garbus about Gloria Vanderbilt complete the story of her life and her relationship with her son, Anderson Cooper. It's interesting and runs the emotional gamut but Gloria remains a woman with many regrets and this I find extremely sad. Recommend this book and the above referenced documentary now on HBO if you are interested in learning how the other half lives and the tragedy that results. Very interesting and a woman to be respected. She has endured and still remains optimistic at 92. Quite a story about a real lady in the truest sense of the word.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Rainbow Comes and Goes?
The discussions about her last husband, Anderson Coopers father, who was the only real love of her life. And the discussion about Anderson's brother.

Ok audible: you got us! This was the perfect "gift" for those of us who insist that if one favorite narrator or another would read something from the phone book, etc we would be happy campers and our credits just might be used for any such recording, provided it is one of our faves!
Kudos and thanks. This recording is a perfect example of just what we wanted.and so, many thanks. It's hysterical and I love it. More, please!

This was to be her last day alive. The renowned criminal psychologist Ira Samin prepared her suicide thoroughly. The death of her eldest daughter had weighed too heavily on her conscience for her to carry on and she yearned for one last drink to raise a toast to oblivion. Her morbid plans are interrupted and she is called in to negotiate a gruesome hostage situation at a radio station where a psychopath is playing a morbid game. While the show is on air, he calls people from the phonebook at random. If they pick up the phone with a certain slogan, a hostage is set free. If they don’t, then the hostage is unceremoniously shot.

Historia
Lucy Barton is recovering slowly from what should have been a simple operation. Her mother, to whom she hasn’t spoken for many years, comes to see her. Gentle gossip about people from Lucy’s childhood in Amgash, Illinois, seems to reconnect them, but just below the surface lie the tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy’s life: her escape from her troubled family, her desire to become a writer, her marriage, her love for her two daughters. Knitting this powerful narrative together is the brilliant storytelling voice of Lucy herself.

Revisado: 04-11-16
I loved this book and the narration was done to perfection. It's a story about love and all that it means. Very emotional and deeply written with a truly engaging and easily to relate to. If you are human, you will recognize much of what Lucy Barton relates her story of life as her experience that is spot on. Highly recommend. This is not really a novel in the usual sense of the word but a telling if one woman and her journey to understanding of her self.

Too Much Politics
Revisado: 03-30-16
I was disappointed with this book as I had hoped to hear about the patients that one doctor encountered over many years as a practicing physician. The emotional as well as stories of individual people he treated with the challenges, triumphs and disappointments that this doctor experienced as doctor for several decades.
This was a well written book but the emphasis was on various issues facing the medical profession and little in depth descriptions of his personal experiences working with people from all walks of life.
Most reviewers liked this book. It has much information and discussion of many political and social issues that is part of the medical profession as a whole. It was just not what I wanted to read, although there was much information presented that made it seem educational and informative without the personal discussion by a doctor treating various people with many different situations which I am sure I would have found interesting. The lack of the humanity side and doctor - patient relationship in the story of his life as a doctor made it sound rather dry and at times boring. Wanted a more personal discussion of his work with the many patients encountered over the years and the unique story that was his to tell.
Don't get me wrong. It is well written and has much information and discussion of important issues. Just not enough of the "human touch" in general. Rather dry.

So Disappointing
Revisado: 03-26-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The voice of the protagonist is terribly dramatic and makes it difficult for me to listen to the story. It just prevented me from really listening to the book and the story unfold so I cannot say that the novel itself was all that bad. The narration spoiled it for me.
Would you ever listen to anything by Lisa Gardner again?
Absolutely. She is one of my favorite suspense/thriller authors and I have many of her books. To be fair, because I found the narration so off putting, I did not really listen to the entire book as a whole. Perhaps I will read the print version as I found it impossible to get past the narrator's reading.
How could the performance have been better?
Another narrator who didn't sound so emotionally overdone to the point of almost sounding a bit on the farcical side. I don't mean to be too critical of Kristen Potter. I have other books she narrated and enjoyed very much. Just something about her characterization of the main characters. DD Warren sounded sarcastic and edgy without the nicer side that I equate as part of her personality in other books in the series.
What character would you cut from Find Her?
Not really sure if any characters need to be cut from the story.
Any additional comments?
Although I did not enjoy this book because of the narration, it seemed to drag on and on and I struggled to keep listening and thought it would never end. I was determined to finish this book as so many good reviews have been written and Lisa Gardner is one of my favorite writers. It was hard to pay attention to the story as I got caught up in the narration and the negative effect it had on me.
I want to read this book and judge it again as I may have ffailed to enjoy this book because of the narrator's reading. It just spoiled the story entirely.
