Historia
In 1177 B.C., marauding groups known only as the "Sea Peoples" invaded Egypt. The pharaoh’s army and navy managed to defeat them, but the victory so weakened Egypt that it soon slid into decline, as did most of the surrounding civilizations. After centuries of brilliance, the civilized world of the Bronze Age came to an abrupt and cataclysmic end. Kingdoms fell like dominoes over the course of just a few decades. No more Minoans or Mycenaeans. No more Trojans, Hittites, or Babylonians.

NOT a good choice for audio only
Revisado: 03-26-20
Mildly interesting story if you enjoy threads of history and how they are collated and analyzed, but the names and places are impossible to follow without frequent reference to maps. And the fact that it all leads to no firm conclusions make this historical 'mystery' leaving the listener asking why they bothered to listen to the whole book. The author clearly did a massive amountof research, and the narration was fine, but you feel like it added up to a big fat nothing at the end.

Historia
Sasha Chapin is a victim of chess. Like countless amateurs before him - Albert Einstein, Humphrey Bogart, Marcel Duchamp - the game has consumed his life and his mind. First captivated by it as a member of his high school chess club, his passion was rekindled during an accidental encounter with chess hustlers on the streets of Kathmandu. In its aftermath, he forgot how to care about anything else. He played at all hours, for weeks at a time. Like a spurned lover, he tried to move on, but he found the game more seductive the more he resisted it.

Best book on chess/life/self-identify ever written
Revisado: 08-16-19
In this case, the author was the absolute best person to read the story, without holding back any of the emotions with which everything was written.

Historia
Philosopher, Broadway headliner, fighter, felon - Mike Tyson has defied stereotypes, expectations, and a lot of conventional wisdom during his three decades in the public eye. Bullied as a boy in the toughest, poorest neighborhood in Brooklyn, Tyson grew up to become one of the most thrilling and ferocious boxers of all time - and the youngest heavyweight champion ever. But his brilliance in the ring was often compromised by reckless behavior.

Excellent narration
Revisado: 11-24-18
Tyson makes it very difficult to empathize. His treatment of other lacks consistency. I understand he is still sorting through his past, and I wish him the best. But the book should have gone through a competent editor first.

Historia
The First World War is one of history’s greatest tragedies. In this remarkable and intimate account, author G. J. Meyer draws on exhaustive research to bring to life the story of how the Great War reduced Europe’s mightiest empires to rubble, killed 20 million people, and cracked the foundations of the world we live in today. World War I is unique in the number of questions about it that remain unsettled. After more than 90 years, scholars remain divided on these questions, and it seems likely that they always will.

Long, but worth it.

Great narration, gives any student of The Great War far more than just a battle by battle listing. The who's and why's of everything going on makes some sense of the whole calamity, and you can see (with benefit of hindsight) how it changed the course of history.
