1930's cozy gem
Revisado: 04-09-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Pilgrim's Rest to be better than the print version?
I have never read Patricia Wentworth's books. What a wonderful writer of cozies, ala Agatha Christie!
Diana Bishop is PERFECT as narrator of this whole series.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I follow Miss Silver and enjoy her methods of deduction.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Enjoyment. Looking forward to each book.
Any additional comments?
I find the British horror of publicity of any kind wears thin as the characters go to any and every length to avoid it. Pre-Rupert Murdoch.

There are plenty of unattached women around, but a healthy, handsome, available man is a rare and desirable creature. Edward receives phone calls from widows seeking love, or at least lunch, while well-meaning friends try to set him up at dinner parties. The problem is that Edward doesn’t feel available. He’s still mourning his beloved wife, Bee, and prefers solitude and the familiar routine of work, gardening, and bird-watching.

If you could sum up An Available Man in three words, what would they be?
tender, touching, memorable
What other book might you compare An Available Man to and why?
If I Stay, I think that's the title. Both books deal with life and loss and the opportunities to live again. This book about a widower in his 60s, the other about a teenage girl in a serious accident.
Which scene was your favorite?
The scenes on Martha's Vineyard as he starts to live again, weighs possibilities, and pitfalls.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
He's such a nice man that I don't think Hollywood would be the right market for this. A stage play.

If you could sum up The Probability of Miracles in three words, what would they be?
honest expression of teenage feelings facing death.

In this terrifying and hilarious prequel, we witness the genesis of the zombie plague in early 19th-century England. We watch Elizabeth Bennet evolve from a nave young teenager into a savage slayer of the undead. We laugh as she begins her first clumsy training with nunchucks and katana swords and cry when her first blush with romance goes tragically awry.

Perfect writing ans marvekous listen
Revisado: 12-28-11
Would you listen to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls again? Why?
The COMBINATION of ninjas, shaolin warriors, zombies and the Pride ans Prejudice milieu is so surprising, refreshing, and humorous. I laughed out loud and really marvelled at the talent of the authors in this series who stay true to the spirit of Pride and Prejudice structure. I will definitely give these three books another listen, especially when I need something completely different and humorous.
What other book might you compare Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls to and why?
I like books that draw me in and keep me engrossed. I enjoy all of Molly Harper's books. For engrossing, it has to be The Ladies # Detective Agency series set in Botswana. Ender's Game. by Scott Card. The whole Dune series.
Which character ??? as performed by Katherine Kellgren ??? was your favorite?
Katherine Kellgren is a marvel! She brings each of the characters to life. In this volume I loved watching Kitty coming in to her own.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh-definitely!

Odyssey of atonement
Revisado: 05-15-11
By upbringing our heroine is unprepared to appreciate love and compassion. Even though married, she thinks nothing of having an affair and hurting her husband. Slowly she awakens to the greater beauty and depth of life after her shallow lover abandons her to certain death.
This is a poignant tale of an odyssey of atonement she continues even as the novel ends.
Kate Reading reads Maugham beautifully.
This is a morality tale, though not preachy. It is the slow dawning of love and compassion for others.
