Historia
"It was a beautiful, breezy, yellow-and-green afternoon..." This is how Abby Whitshank always begins the story of how she fell in love with Red that day in July 1959. The Whitshanks are one of those families that radiate togetherness: an indefinable, enviable kind of specialness. But they are also like all families, in that the stories they tell themselves reveal only part of the picture.

Captivating characters
Revisado: 04-03-25
This is my third Anne Tyler novel. As an avid reader I appreciate books that I can get caught up in. This is one of those books. Complicated flawed characters who are so well written they seem to be real. I will continue to explore Ms Tyler’s other novels.

Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

This should be a short story
Revisado: 03-12-25
The narrator is fantastic. I hung in with the book longer than I would’ve because of her. The story is so contrived, the characters unrealistic, the premise behind the entire book is lame. I wish I could say something positive but I can’t.

The more I read this series the more I like it
Revisado: 09-21-24
Quirky, charming and well written characters. It runs slowly so there are times I feel impatient. It’s growing on me and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Historia
It's the most anticipated event of the decade—Big Lou and Fat Bob's wedding—and everyone is invited! But the relative peace and tranquillity of 44 Scotland Street is about to be disrupted. Domineering Irene is set to return for a two-month stay, consigning young Bertie to a summer camp. Not content with that, she somehow manages to come between the enigmatic nun, Sister Maria-Fiore dei Fiori di Montagna, and her friend, the hagiographer, Antonia Collie.

Not the best in this series
Revisado: 09-11-24
I know I am coming to the end of this series and it feels like the writer has run out of new ideas. I’d like more Bertie and Seeral (the dog.) Less Angus and Dominica. Sad to see Bruce become religious and Matthew and Ellsbeth are annoying and boring. Irene is now a nice person and Stuart gives her a second chance not my favorite! Sorry to say.

Started out so great
Revisado: 09-07-24
The first 2/3rd’s of this book was excellent. Funny, thought provoking, charming, a real joy to read. Unfortunately the last part of this book dragged on. The ending was lifeless.

Revisado: 07-03-24
I liked the narrator very much. I feel like he brought this book to life. I got the giggles several times specially the part about “underpants.“ Some of the characters are very likable and others not! Quite a bit like life itself. I will definitely read the entire series.

Charming but a bit boring
Revisado: 06-01-24
I mostly enjoyed this book especially the narrator. The characters have a unique sense of humor which I assume is because they’re Scandinavian. I will read the next book and see if the tempo is a little more stimulating.

From the legendary actor and best-selling author: a novel about the making of a star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film...and the humble comic books that inspired it. Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, while also capturing the changes in America and American culture since World War II.

Revisado: 04-17-24
I really wanted to like this book since I loved the first book by this author. So maybe my expectations were too high. The protagonist was one of the most annoying woman I’ve ever had the misfortune to spend time with. I kept with it, hoping that it would get better at some point, it never did. Why was it necessary to talk about the protagonists size 18 body? very distracting and unnecessary to the flow of the story. I highly recommended first book, but would not bother with this one.

Uncertain about the problem from Timothy's cryptic texts, Mitch Turner slips into his suit and heads over to visit Timothy, unable to imagine any reason why Timothy would be calling for help at such a late hour.
