Historia
History of Australia Australia is one of those countries that are known for the fauna – but not always for their remarkable past. Starting with the history of the aboriginal roots and going for its evolution into the present day, Australia was not an easy continent to live in. There used to be bloodshed, conflict, and a lot of negativity at every step. However, while it may feature a dark past marked by battles, massacres, and conflicts between the aboriginal folk and the people, it is these events that turned Australia into what it is today. Each event brought with it a lesson – one ...

Poorly narrated but also probably poorly written
Revisado: 03-18-25
The machine voice needs to learn English grammar. The narration was so bad it may have damaged the author's writing, but it was hard to tell. The author skipped from topic to topic, needed to have to studied syntax more rigorously, and needed to have a coherent story to tell. As badly as I wanted to learn about Australia, I had 52 minutes left in a 69 minute book when I gave up.

Lennon. Dylan. Jagger. Belushi. Leibovitz. The story of Jann Wenner, Rolling Stone's founder, editor, and publisher, is an insider's trip through the backstages of storied concert venues, rock-star hotel rooms, and the political ups and downs of the latter half of the 20th century, right up through the digital age: connecting the counterculture of Haight Ashbury to the "straight world".

A fascinating jerk.
Revisado: 02-17-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Unlike some biographies, this one does not make any attempt to white-wash it's subject's glaring personal flaws. Even his friends didn't like him. But the subject was in the middle of so many events and personalities, what he chose to do explains a lot about US social history from 1960 to the present.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sticky Fingers?
How one egomaniac's self-centered view of the world shaped my own.
Which character – as performed by Dennis Boutsikaris – was your favorite?
Well read. The narrator's tone and attitude matched the material.

Historia
In teeming Victorian London, where lavish wealth and appalling poverty live side by side, Edward Pierce charms the most prominent of the well-to-do as he cunningly orchestrates the crime of the century. Who would suspect that a gentleman of breeding could mastermind the daring theft of a fortune in gold? Who could predict the consequences of making the extraordinary robbery aboard the pride of England's industrial era, the mighty steam locomotive?

Victorian England makes 2017 look like Utopia
Revisado: 02-17-18
If you could sum up The Great Train Robbery in three words, what would they be?
Revealing, intricate scrrenshot
What did you like best about this story?
The choice of an intricately plotted train robbery exposes layers and layers of Victorian England, a time and place I used to look back on as elegantly civilized, That is not remotely the case.
What about Michael Kitchen’s performance did you like?
Well told in a manner that extends the written words' sharp social commentary.

Too much & read poorly
Revisado: 01-07-18
Fascinating, well researched, history of the origin and development of the characters and stories. But more than I wanted to know about the author’s spendthrift, squabbling heirs and their machinations to milk their father’s work while apparently doing little to make their own livings. Read in a sing-song cadence that became very difficult to listen to as the subject matter devolved into details that obscured the points ultimately made. The narrator’s voice pitched up and paused like a pendulum, irrespective of the meaning and contents of the sentences. If you want to get to the point, listen to the chapters up to Doyle’s interest in mysticism then the last few as Sherlock emerges as a modern character.

Historia
In his best seller Wheat Belly, Dr. William Davis changed the lives of millions of people by teaching them to remove grains from their diets to reverse years of chronic health damage. In Undoctored, he goes beyond cutting grains to help you take charge of your own health. This groundbreaking exposé reveals how millions of people are given dietary recommendations crafted by big business, are prescribed unnecessary medications, and undergo unwarranted procedures to feed revenue-hungry healthcare systems.

I could not finish it.
Revisado: 12-26-17
Would you try another book from William Davis, MD and/or Dan Woren?
You might need to. Written in the style of 'the vegetable (or pill or exercise) that will change your life forever,' this book may offer some real help but after 38 chapters of 'you can't trust doctors and the health care system,' I still had not come upon much of them. Read in the evangelistic tone of the true believer, every sentence was of great import. I felt browbeaten. My son recommended the book to me. He found the author's previous book, citing the dangers of wheat in our diets, helpful. But if you know something about the deplorable state of the US health care system and a healthy life style, skip this book. You might try his other one.
