Historia
The world is on the cusp of destruction as Mordecai’s power grows beyond the limits of his own control, yet most of the powers that rule the world are oblivious. The only hope of salvaging their civilization lies with his children, but they have been scattered and branded outlaws. Meanwhile Tyrion continues to march toward his own goals, heedless of whether they will help or harm their efforts to stop the apocalypse, as even the Queen begins to doubt the archmage’s sanity.

Truly a unique body of work. Immensely satisfying right until the end. Cannot recommend enough for lovers of magic and of complex characters.

DO NOT READ THIS YET
Revisado: 12-25-24
Loved the book and series, but I would highly recommend pausing this series after book 4 and reading the Embers of Illineil prequel trilogy. There is a slight (but predictable) spoiler by doing so, but this book is a major spoiler for the entire prequel trilogy. Mostly though, reading the prequel first makes this book (which serves as the ultimate conclusion to both series) so much more satisfying!

Not for the “magic-obsessed”
Revisado: 09-22-21
Great story and excellent “bang for your buck” given its three books for one credit. That’s said, as someone really into magic, I kept wanting there to be more. It’s a story with magic but not driven by or even larger about magic in many ways. A good cup of tea, just not “my” cup of tea, as it were.

Refreshingly new take on a common theme.

Pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it, by the end.
Some might feel this book has some parts that you can listen to while doing other things (my new favorite is gardening!), but it’s an entertaining, fresh take on what might seem a played-out genre.

Historia
Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but longstanding enmities dividing the Rhune make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods? The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind.

A Necessary Bridge Book, Ignore the Naysayers
Revisado: 03-30-21
I’m so glad I ignored the negative reviews and read this book! True, this is not as riveting nor as surprising as the first book. However, it’s the necessary bridge to continue the story while explaining and setting up the next act. That all said, one critique (or at least forewarning) – For those who have not read the Riyera Revelations trilogy, I would highly recommend doing so before reading this book (even if you have already read Age of Myth). I certainly found the plot twists and development of this book far more rewarding because of what it portends for the “future” described in the subsequent Riyera books set 3,000 years later. Without this facet, it’s definitely less engaging, but still well worth it.

Historia
In Age of Myth, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan launched audiences on an epic journey of magic and adventure, heroism and betrayal, love and loss. Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without—and bitter rivalries from within. Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long-standing enmities dividing the Rhunes make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods?

Historia
Democracies can die with a coup d'état - or they can die slowly. This happens most deceptively when in piecemeal fashion, with the election of an authoritarian leader, the abuse of governmental power and the complete repression of opposition. All three steps are being taken around the world - not least with the election of Donald Trump - and we must all understand how we can stop them.
