Historia
In this 1996 Minnesota Book Award winner, Kent Nerburn draws the listener deep into the world of an Indian elder known only as Dan. It’s a world of Indian towns, white roadside cafes, and abandoned roads that swirl with the memories of the Ghost Dance and Sitting Bull. Listeners meet vivid characters like Jumbo, a 400-pound mechanic, and Annie, an 80-year-old Lakota woman living in a log cabin. Threading through the audiobook is the story of two men struggling to find a common voice.

Amazing!
Revisado: 01-20-20
I hate what the philosophy of white supremacy did to Native Americans. This was a beautiful, insightful book. I intend to continue reading other books by Kent Nerburn. The narrator was perfect, as well.

For the last 20 years, Melinda Gates has been on a mission to find solutions for people with the most urgent needs, wherever they live. Excellent Book!

I hope this book is on the short list for this year's Pulitzer Prize. Go from this to Hans Rosling's book "Factfulness." Bill Gates says it's one of the most important books he has ever read.

Historia
“Dear Ones.” So begins each of an extraordinary collection of letters written to friends and family by Catherine Royce as she contemplated how she would live out her life as it was slowly taken from her by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Writing with great humor, candor, and insight, Catherine stares, unblinking, into the glare of her own mortality.

ALS Warrior
Revisado: 11-13-19
Catherine Royce was a remarkable and gifted writer and, although I did not personally know her, I feel she was equally remarkable as a wife, mother, daughter and friend. I listened twice, back to back, and can't remember having done that with any other book. It went as fast the second time as it did the first. I don't know when I'll be passing from this world, but I certainly look forward to someday chatting with Catherine Royce.

Historia
On the morning of April 29, 1986, a fire alarm sounded in the Los Angeles Public Library. As the moments passed, the patrons and staff who had cleared out of the building realized this was not the usual false alarm. As one fireman recounted later, “Once that first stack got going, it was good-bye, Charlie.” The fire was disastrous: It reached 2,000 degrees and burned for more than seven hours. By the time it was extinguished, it had consumed 400,000 books and damaged 700,000 more.

Wonderful Memories
Revisado: 10-29-19
This book nudged so many wonderful memories of times spent at the library, when I was young. I'm so happy to know that libraries are growing, evolving and staying relevant in this age of e-books. Like the author's mother, I too find myself wishing I had become a librarian.

Historia
A brilliant literary debut, inspired by a true story: the final days of a young woman accused of murder in Iceland in 1829. Set against Iceland's stark landscape, Hannah Kent brings to vivid life the story of Agnes, who, charged with the brutal murder of her former master, is sent to an isolated farm to await execution. Horrified at the prospect of housing a convicted murderer, the family at first avoids Agnes. Only Tóti, a priest Agnes has mysteriously chosen to be her spiritual guardian, seeks to understand her.

You can get the plot elsewhere, but I wanted to comment on the beautiful writing! I read many mediocre books looking forward to the next time I find a writer who can write like Hannah Kent. The narration was great, as well.

Historia
Renée Ballard is working the night beat again and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours only to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin. Ballard kicks him out but then checks into the case herself, and it brings a deep tug of empathy and anger. Bosch is investigating the death of 15-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally murdered and her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now, Ballard joins forces with Bosch.

Thanks, Michael Connelly for continuing to give Harry Bosch fans his stories. Ballard is an excellent, almost female Bosch. Great character development!! I've already pre-ordered the next book and can't wait!!!

Historia
Once described by The Washington Post as "the most interesting mayor you've never heard of", Pete Buttigieg, the 36-year-old Democratic mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has improbably emerged as one of the nation's most visionary politicians. First elected in 2011, Buttigieg left a successful business career to move back to his hometown, previously tagged by Newsweek as a "dying city", and transformed it into a shining model of urban reinvention.

Miryem is the daughter and granddaughter of moneylenders, but her father's inability to collect his debts has left his family on the edge of poverty - until Miryem takes matters into her own hands. Hardening her heart, the young woman sets out to claim what is owed and soon gains a reputation for being able to turn silver into gold. When an ill-advised boast draws the attention of the king of the Staryk - grim fey creatures who seem more ice than flesh - Miryem's fate, and that of two kingdoms, will be forever altered.

Frustrating narration
Revisado: 04-29-19
Pretty good story. It dragged a bit here in there with characters telling the reader things that were painfully obvious. Matbe this was better suited for a young adult audience.
The narrator did almost all the voices the same, except for the fire monster and it came across as whining, instead of scary. With everyone sounding alike, there were times when you had no idea which character was talking and had to wait a while before figuring out out.

An inspiring, informative, and practical guide to navigating end-of-life issues, by a groundbreaking expert in the field and the New York Times best-selling author of Knocking on Heaven’s Door. Katy Butler argues that we have lost touch with the “art of dying” as practiced by our ancestors, yet we still hunger for rites of passage and a sense of the sacred, especially in the important life transitions of aging and dying.
