Historia
When it first gets announced, the Leteo Institute's memory-alteration procedure seems too good to be true to Aaron Soto; miracle cure-alls don't tend to pop up in the Bronx projects. Aaron can't forget how he's grown up poor, how his friends all seem to shrug him off, and how his father committed suicide in their one-bedroom apartment. Then Thomas shows up. The love Aaron discovers may cost him what's left of his life. But since Aaron can't suddenly stop being gay, Leteo may be the only way out.

Unexpected yet very interesting
Revisado: 07-25-24
I’m not sure how this ended up on my tbr list but I went in not knowing anything. It became clear early on that I was not its target audience, as I’m in my 50’s, yet I truly enjoyed this story. There were several times that I audibly gasped at the turn in the story. I’ve read thousands of books and often times can see the way the storyline is developing early on but that was definitely not the case. Although the story has a character struggling with being gay, the story really is about so much more. It’s about how hard it can be for kids to see past trauma, how whole families are affected by loss and the deep down desire we all have to just be happy and loved for who we are. Really well written story and the narrator was excellent.

Probably one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to. Story was outstanding, full of suspense and hope. How far would one go to save humanity and what sacrifices would need be made?

Excellent Audible and storytelling
Revisado: 10-14-21
Although a universal story of money, excess and the consequences of greed, it is also a unique and intimate view into the world of the rise and fall of a dynasty. I really enjoyed having the author read this story. He does a good job of flow and doesn’t overdramatize the story. I truly didn’t know much of the Vanderbilt family and didn’t even realize his mother was a Vanderbilt until I read his previous book. His obvious love for her is palatable and I’m so glad they had each other. Anderson Cooper truly is an old soul. Even in his earlier book, his ability to see people more fully and not just at face value is truly a gift. After all, most of us are complicated and yet not at the same time. I truly enjoyed the time spent listening to the book and feel we can all learn something from the lives of the Vanderbilt, even if it’s a bit of a cautionary tale.

Amazing story and performance
Revisado: 09-08-21
My 13 year old son and I listened to the Tristan Strong Audible and it may be one of the best we’ve ever heard. Amir Abdullah is an incredible story teller. His voices for the characters are perfection. The story by Kwame Mbalia is such a fun interpretation of the stories of Ancient African and African American Folktales. We fell in love with so many of the characters and really look forward to the other stories in the Tristan Strong universe.
