Sweeping overview

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-20-08

Paul Johnson provides a fascinatingly fresh point of view to the clich? perspective of the typical liberal arts major professor.

In the is series you will discover:

How evil the Soviet Union was

How racial segregation has been the norm in Africa

Why the West has attempted to commit suicide after the 60's

Paulson has a command of economic, geo-political events and an incredible gift for decrypting the complex.

Sincere and straightforward book

5 out of 5 stars

The author creates a no-nonsense, straightforward image of who he is and what he experienced. I was particularly impressed with the complexity of his thought and the skill of his writing.

Fascinating

The writer draws parallels that many have probably never pondered. What do Nylon Stockings and Crack Cocaine have in common? He gives great insight backed by statistics and a lot of factual information.

Good, not great

Total
3 out of 5 stars

I enjoyed hearing his point of view and I also liked the overview of the history of dot.com boom and bust.

I think he wants to seem prescient, and his warnings of American doom and gloom seem a bit exaggerated.

Don't read if you're voting for Kerry

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 09-27-04

You'll have to change your vote. Some issues like personality and Kerry's motives are debatable, but most of what O'Neil writes is verifiable and condeming:

Kerry used the swiftboat reunion as a photo-op and didn't stay for the memorial for his fallen comrades

Kerry lied, under oath about the atrocities committed
Over 200 of Kerry's fellow swifties condemn his presidential bid

Kerry met with the North Vietnamese DURING the Vietnam war

Kerry Lied about being in Cambodia, and repeated the same lie in several articles.

The writing style is direct, descriptive and effective. Reading the other reviewers who have given this book no stars, I really wonder if they have actually listened to it.

An Eye-Opener

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 08-06-04

A sobering portrait on the French and European view on a America. If you're an ex-pat or interested in learning more about the "international community" this book--written by a French intellectual-- is an excellent tool. Some culutural reference required, but the analysis is direct, eloquent, and with that-makes-sense logic mixed in to give a satisfying aha! at the end. Liberal or Conservative get ready to be bothered.
