Historia
Over 200 years ago, a covert expedition shadowing Lewis and Clark disappeared into the wilderness of central Idaho. Now, seven anthropology students and their professor vanish in the same area. The key to finding them lies in an ancient secret, one involving alchemy, gold, and immortality...a secret that men throughout history have sought to unveil. Michael Rempart is a brilliant archeologist whose colorful and controversial career has earned him admiring fans and implacable foes, but he is plagued by a troubling sense of the supernatural and a mysterious spiritual intuitiveness.

Philosophy disguised as an adventure story
Revisado: 11-20-15
Would you try another book from Paul B. Skousen and/or Mark Deakins?
Not Paul B. Skousen.
Has Bassam and the Seven Secret Scrolls turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes, if the genre is personal philosophy/life planning thinly disguised as an adventure story. When I select a book believing it to be a novel, I am looking for the escape of an interesting story and setting. I do not want to be lectured about how to live my life.
Which character – as performed by Mark Deakins – was your favorite?
Zafir. Mark Deakins narration of the story is fine.
Do you think Bassam and the Seven Secret Scrolls needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
NO, I cannot finish this one.
Any additional comments?
Audible should categorize these types of books (philosophy told in the form of a story) more accurately. This book is akin to a modern version of the Ramayana or the Bible. People may want to read it, but they should not be tricked into doing it.

Historia
Succubus (n.) An alluring, shape-shifting demon who seduces and pleasures mortal men. Pathetic (adj.) A succubus with great shoes and no social life. See: Georgina Kincaid. When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay with their souls, but why get technical? But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid's life is far less exotic.

Bad Romance Novel in Disguise
Revisado: 02-23-11
I ordered Succubus Blues along with Halfway to the Grave and Storm Front, as I was in the mood for Urban Fantasy and they were all in a First in a Series sale. Succubus Blues was a major disappointment. Fundamentally, it has the plot and characters of a Romance novel, with supernatural elements only present in a minor role, more like accessories than significant factors driving the plot. It doesn't even succeed as a Romance novel though, because steamy passion is in short supply (rather odd when the protagonist is a succubus).

For love of homesteading
Revisado: 02-23-11
This is an excellent book for readers who have a keen interest in the experience of homesteading in the American West. For the rare reader who loves sheep (I'm a sheep rancher), there is wonderful amount of detail about shepherding and the sheep business. The narrations is at times poetic and heartbreaking. However, the story moves quite slowly throughout the entire book and most of the turns in the plot are hinted at before they arrive. It is not a book that will grab the attention of the average reader.

Spellbinding story
Revisado: 11-19-10
This is a wonderful, complex, literate thriller that interweaves two stories, one set in the present and one set in the 18th century. The characters are a unique and interesting cast. The plot moves briskly, with unpredictable twists and turns. The Venetian setting will appeal to anyone who has visited the city. The narrator is very good, changing voices quite deftly for so many characters. His Italian and American accents are not the best, but do not detract from one's enjoyment of the plot.
