Entertaining
Revisado: 04-26-25
Love the fresh idea of featuring a team of aging professionals in a retirement community/nursing home. Good characterization, believable reasonings and interactions but I don’t really care for the shift to first person pov from time to time. More a 3.5 star than 4 star: 4 for storytelling and 3 for writing.

Historia
Most people are fearful of change because they don't have any control over how or when it happens to them. Since change happens either to the individual or by the individual, Dr. Spencer Johnson uses a simple story to show that when it comes to living in a changing world, what matters most is your attitude. Exploring a simple way to take the fear and anxiety out of managing the future, Who Moved My Cheese? can help you discover how to anticipate, acknowledge, and accept change in order to have a positive impact on your job, your relationships, and every aspect of your life.

It could be even shorter

The class reunion discussions seem cheesy to me. I would have like wisdom in them written in a straightforward nonfictional manner.

Not the best narration
Revisado: 02-16-25
Excellent characterization, very good story, although a bit lacking in the romance. Not a keeper due to poor narration.

Historia
The Honourable Christopher Fancot, on leave from the diplomatic service in the summer of 1817, is startled to find his entrancing but incorrigibly extravagant mother on the brink of financial and social ruin - and more than alarmed to find that his twin, Evelyn, has disappeared without trace. Christopher - Kit - is forced into an outrageous masquerade by the tangled affairs of his wayward family: his rigid uncle, Lord Brumby; the surprisingly wily Sir Bonamy Ripple; the formidable old Lady Stavely and Evelyn's betrothed, Cressy.

Not a keeper
Revisado: 02-06-25
The story was good enough, until the last few chapters, when the Countess's manipulation made me stop listening several times. I could take her clueless in money management, but it was painful listening to her manipulation of Sir Bonamy.

Love it
Revisado: 10-16-24
This one is a keeper. I’ve read quite a few Heyer that I don’t really care for, but this is one that I’d re-read. There’s an interesting cast of characters, some more fleshed out than others, but all believable. Love both the male and female leads, and awed by Lady Aurelia.

Historia
With the insight, humor, and compassion we have come to expect from her, Maeve Binchy tells a story of family, friends, patients, and staff who are part of a heart clinic in a community caught between the old and the new Ireland. Dr. Clara Casey has been offered the thankless job of establishing the underfunded clinic and agrees to take it on for a year. She has plenty on her plate already - two difficult adult daughters and the unwanted attentions of her ex-husband - but she assembles a wonderfully diverse staff devoted to helping their demanding, often difficult patients.

Like a TV mini-series
Revisado: 09-20-24
Listening to this book was like watching a mini-series or a sitcom. We get sketches of the lives of the many characters in a modern city that felt like an old village. It made me want to visit Dublin. A pleasant read, but not a book that I’d re-read over and over again. Better than a 3-star but not quite a 4-star.

Some stories better than the others
Revisado: 09-03-24
I found the first story somewhat dull despite a few moving scenes and skipped ahead after the first few chapters, only to complete it after finishing the others. I like the retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses, second to the Frog and the Princess. I didn’t really care for the Golden Hind. It was perhaps the least favorite of mine among the 4 stories.

Well written
Revisado: 07-20-24
I had a difficult start; stopped several times in the first few chapters and wasn't sure if I would continue/finish. Once I got through the first 10 chapters or so, I began to get the story and felt it flowed more easily. Just when I began to appreciate the pacing/crafting of the story, something that I thought was really stupid happened, and I stopped again. I finally managed to finish it, but it's definitely not a keeper for me.

With little to live on but her romantic daydreams - which frequently starred the dashing Marquess of Fleetwater - Jean Lindsay lived a rather dismal life with her nasty, drunken uncle. Jean was always the object of ridicule, that is, until news of her unexpected inheritance spread. Suddenly her worn dresses became "quaint" and her forthright manner turned magically to "charming", but to Jean's horror, someone wanted her dead!

Difficult
Revisado: 04-29-24
I struggled to finish. I really liked the writing of the historical background (the city of Edinburgh) and some of the supporting characters (the governess and the lawyer). However, both the female and the male leads are difficult to like. I stopped so many times that when I picked it up again I didn't quite remember what happened where I left it off.
