Historia
2016 Pulitzer Prize-winning memoirist of Barbarian Days William Finnegan had devoted his days to chasing waves as a lifelong surfer. When his adolescent daughter, Mollie, proves to be a natural-born climber, Finnegan follows his newfound passion toward rock climbing. It’s an arduous apprenticeship, and it turns the parent-child dynamic on its head, as Mollie slips into the role of coach and mentor, while her father has to push his limits to keep pace.

Excellent Story - Perfect Narration
Revisado: 12-10-19
I have never rock-climbed.
I never read a book or watched a show about rock-climbing.
But this book made of it something engaging and thoughtful and worth thinking more about.
And the father's voice as narrator was perfect.

Words on the Move opens our eyes to the surprising backstories to the words and expressions we use every day. Did you know that silly once meant "blessed"? Or that ought was the original past tense of owe? Or that the suffix -ly in adverbs is actually a remnant of the word like? And have you ever wondered why some people from New Orleans sound as if they come from Brooklyn?

Always a fun author!
Revisado: 07-04-17
I have listened to several of the author's books (and read one of them in print).
My college training was in foreign languages and literature, classics, and linguistics.
And John McWhorter is always a delight to read. his reading voice is fun and interesting. And his content is concise, analytical, and fun, often unexpectedly so.

Understanding language change and how languages differ helps us see that what is often labeled "wrong" about people's speech is, in fact, a misanalysis.

I have long been a fan of McWhorter, after first reading "Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue: The Untold History of English".
This short lecture is equally satisfying, and thoroughly enjoyable!

Historia
Set in the pre-Christian world of Glome on the outskirts of Greek civilization, it is a tale of two princesses: the beautiful Psyche, who is loved by the god of love himself, and Orual, Psyche's unattractive and embittered older sister, who loves Psyche with a destructive possessiveness. Her frustration and jealousy over Psyche's fate sets Orual on the troubled path of self-discovery. Lewis's last work of fiction, this is often considered his best by critics.

Eros & Psyche done justice...or is it mercy?
Revisado: 02-24-17
This is by far my favourite work by C.S. Lewis. And Lewis himself thought the same.
Anyone familiar with his other works, of any and all genres, can sense the genius (and subtle, but more perfect, presence) in this one.
His reworking of the original Cupid and Psyche from the ugly sister's POV is satisfying and revealing.
Nadia May does a very good job as narrator.

Hebrews is about persevering in the faith. Written concerning the Jewish Christians, this letter serves as a reminder that Christ is superior to priests, angels, and the old covenant laws. His sacrifice is once for all unlike the sacrificial system.

King James Version.
Solidly good performance.
Not marred by any overdramatization as some recordings are.
And reasonably priced.

All in all, this is a very good recording.
Generally, I don't prefer background music, but for a recording that has it, this is good.

Excellent Narrator
Revisado: 02-06-17
Where does A Quest of Heroes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In the middle.
Would you be willing to try another book from Morgan Rice? Why or why not?
Yes. Although I do find that "too much" happens in "too short" a time, nevertheless there was enough to make it interesting, and the $1.99 price for the audiobook (because already owning the Kindle version free) was worth it.
What does Wayne Farrell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I was skeptical about this audiobook, until I heard Wayne Farrell. He was well chosen. Does a solid job. And I was impressed with how well he could differentiate characters without resorting to any overdramatics.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If the activity allowed it, perhaps.
Any additional comments?
The marketing plan of offering a free Book #1 on Kindle, and then a $1.99 upgrade to Audiobook on Audible was a smart choice.

Historia
The Gospel is counterintuitive to humans. We are used to earning almost everything in our lives. In the book of Romans, Paul makes it clear that we cannot earn our way to God; in fact, even the “good” deeds we do are like filthy rags before the Lord. Listen to Paul as he teaches us that we are more sinful than we could ever imagine but also more loved than we could ever imagine.

Good quality: No frills, No overdramatization
Revisado: 02-03-17
Obviously, the King James Version of Romans is excellent.
But the narration is also very good quality. It is solidly articulated, without silly dramatizing.
