Worth reading, but certainly from a specific perspective.

I think the author does a good job pointing out problems with international, Israeli, and even Palestinian policy that has failed the Palestinian people. The author does not seem to go into any depth about the intractable problems of massive corruption and theft by Palestinian leaders who have stolen their people blind. Or explain the consequences of militant pro-Palestinian groups like Fata and Hamas stealing large amounts of money from the Palestinian people to create concrete tunnels and purchase arms, depriving their people of precious resources, while putting them in direct military harm by creating infrastructure within mosques, schools, and apartment complexes. It’s also a bit much to characterize Israeli Jews as white European colonist settlers, while ignoring entirely their 4000 year history in the area. No doubt it is a complicated and horny thing to dissect, but you can’t just have your preferred narrative to the exclusion of ALL realities. Additionally, there are cultural problems that the author avoids. The author points out a massacre perpetrated in a Lebanese refugee camp. That massacre was greeted with anger, scorn, dismay, and investigations by the Israeli people. In contrast, the feelings of Palestinians towards the October 7 massacres immediately following the massacre and before any Israeli response, showed Palestinians in Gaza with near 80% approval ratings. Hard to see how this ends anytime soon.

One of the best books I’ve had in a long time. I grew up in Appalachia Ohio in a similar community. Definitely lots of truth in this book.

If you’re dying for a book on teenage homoeroticism here you are. I was hoping for something remotely, historical and mythological in nature and that seems to not be at all with the author is going for. Not for me.

Great Book And Author

Ryan is a magnificent writer and all his books are well worth reading. So are his daily dad and daily Stoic emails. Like all of his books, this one is a gem and worth lots of reflection and hopefully implementation.

Extremely well written, and entertaining story as well, as very interesting and detailed account of bison and their history with humans throughout North America. A must read for hunters or bison enthusiasts!
