Wonderful book

Absolutely adored this book. Erudite, dripping with history, wonderful and funny writing - could not put it down. The whole idea of the book is fascinating - make you look at people and on the street and wonder "Are they........?" Will not spoil it, but her theory could explain why psychiatry does not really work all the time!! The narrator Jennifer Ikeda was excellent....was able to do a variety of accents - a very creditable Australian accent, which so few seem able to manage, French (ancient and modern) and a Glaswegian accent!!!

Wonderful book

The story was breathtaking in its scope. Kept you wanting more...and thankfully it was a lovely long book. But even so I did not want it to end. Makes you want to read more about this period of history, and also more from Ken Follett - highly recommended

Lovely - but needs chapters

Beautiful collection of Burns - and excellent readers and singer - but sometime you just want to listen to one item several times over, and unfortunately there are no chapter divisions that you can back arrow to.....not a real complaint - just a little niggle.

Charming and wittily observed novel....revealing of human nature and Edinburgh itself. Must now read all the series. Blythe Duff read superbly - nothing against David Rintoul, but I do wish Duff had read them all.

One of the Best

I remember reading that this novel was considered one of the best detective stories every written....a big call I know...but now having read/heard it, I would pretty much agree that it is up there. Sayers writes beautifully and the story is so clever .....you do have to like Lord Peter Whimsey though....if you don't like the between the wars era or that type of seemingly airheaded nobility that apparently only England can produce....avoid this. But the story line is SENSATIONAL

Magnificent

The is is magnificent book but it just tears you heart out....bleak, stark beautifully written - sparse writing but conveys so much. Tom Stechschulte reads is wonderfully.

Needs serious editing

The information in this audiobook is excellent - well presented - BUT there is a really irritating chapter system (240 episodes in fact) each of which is introduced VERY ANNOYING.....needs to be edited so that it flows from one chapter to the next without interruption

David Starkey's Monarchy

Not a purely factual history but a detailed assessment of the effects changes in monarchy had on the life and times of Britain. Fascinating!! Read by the author himself which gives the audiobook a greater impact.
