Historia
Fifty years ago, a young astronomer named Frank Drake pointed a radio telescope at nearby stars in the hope of picking up a signal from an alien civilization. Thus began one of the boldest scientific projects in history, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). But after a half century of scanning the skies, astronomers have little to report but an eerie silence---eerie because many scientists are convinced that the universe is teeming with life.

Eerie Silence - Eerie Science?
Revisado: 10-13-24
Spoiler Alert - The SETI scientist, states that as a scientist there is no proof of any Extra Terrestrial Intelligence, but as a philosopher and a Science fiction fan, we should continue to spend millions or billions of dollars looking for intelligent life. The author is very condescending in many portions of the book and very critical of the human race in particular. The author has great fear about the consequences of discovering Extra Terrestrial Intelligence - the people of Earth could not handle this discovery and there would be worldwide unrest without the guidance from him and his SETI colleagues. Throughout the book, the author's opinions and politics override any true scientific discussion of the subject. He condemns religious beliefs as artifacts of an ignorant time in history.
It is silly to believe in God because there is no scientific evidence of his existence.
It is cool to believe in Aliens and ETs even though there is no scientific evidence of their existence because I have read Isaac Asimov books as a child.

The Creators Should be ashamed of this travesty
Revisado: 11-18-23
It can only be assumed that the author has never read a novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Obviously the author used and a i program asking it to construct a novel using as many names as possible from the Canon of Sherlock Holmes, no matter how ineptly, and combine those names in a plot similar to the 1998 Movie The Avengers featuring Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes, but leave out the Parrot sketch from Monty Python or readers may become suspicious
The a i program successfully accomplished its mission. I do no understand why Audible would fund something so banal and insulting to the work of Conan Doyle and his aficionados. Why not produce something consistent with the quality and intelligence of the original?

Racing the Light - A Disappointment
Revisado: 11-02-22
Unfortunately one of the weakest of stories in the Elvis Cole - Joe Pike series. The narrator, Luke Daniels, is annoying in his performance, more annoying than in his previous Elvis Cole - Joe Pike performance. Maybe it is time for a walker for Elvis and a wheelchair for Joe. After pre-purchasing this selection and waiting several months to receive it, it was a disappointment.

The Agatha Christie stories are there - this would be a terrific value given the number of stories, but the narrator makes this selection unlistenable. Worse than a Monty Python doing a French accent (I know, not French, Belgian. )

Historia
In the closing days of 1799, the United States was still a young republic, its uncertain future contested by the two major political parties of the day: the well-moneyed Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton, and the populist Republicans, led by Aaron Burr. The two finest lawyers in New York, Burr and Hamilton were bitter rivals both in and out of the courtroom, and as the next election approached - with Manhattan likely to be the swing district on which the presidency would hinge - their animosity reached a fever pitch.

This was a very disappointing selection. Much seems to be cut and paste from other Audible Originals. There is very little time spent with the Title characters, Burr and Hamilton.
The narration is often annoying and inconsistent.

Historia
London, 1944. While the Luftwaffe makes its final assault on the already battered British capital, Londoners rush through the streets, seeking underground shelter in the midst of the city's blackout. When the panic subsides, other things begin to surface along with London's war-worn citizens. A severed arm is discovered by a group of children playing at an East End bomb site, and when Scotland Yard's Detective Sergeant Frederick Troy arrives at the scene, it becomes apparent that the dismembered body is not the work of a V-1 rocket.

Unfortunate
Revisado: 01-04-22
It seems that the author took the idea dramatizing the plight of a British police officer during World War II from the excellent BBC television program Foyle’s War. Unfortunately the author fails as a story teller. The injection of post millennium ideas and jargon into mid nineteenth century situations further detracts and distracts from the reader’s immersion.

Revisado: 06-28-21
It is interesting to know that one can obtain a BA in English from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MFA in Fiction Writing from Columbia University with an adolescent vocabulary and the apathetic usage of words as presented in this audio book. Unfortunately, books such as this provide abundant fuel for those who deny climate change. As an Antarctica researcher, I was disappointed about how little of this book is concerned with Antarctica or the Thwaites Glacier.

Historia
Legendary "space statesman" Buzz Aldrin speaks out as a vital advocate for the continuing quest to push the boundaries of the universe as we know it. As a pioneering astronaut who set foot on the moon during mankind’s first landing with Apollo 11 - and an aerospace engineer who designed an orbital rendezvous technique critical to future planetary landings - Aldrin has a vision, and in Mission to Mars he plots out the path he proposes, one that will take humans to Mars by 2035.

Very Disappointing
Revisado: 06-26-21
This audio book was disappointing. I love Buzz Aldrin for his commitment, his service to mankind, his heroism, and especially for his defense of his honor by punching a media representative who claimed the moon landing was faked and that Mr. Aldrin was a liar.
Despite his brilliance, his cringe worthy ego is forefront in his book continually overshadowing all else he is trying to relate.

Bill (Lord) Rowcester was well and truly in the gumbo. With the benefit of hindsight he could see that setting himself up as a Silver Ring bookie might not have been his smartest move ever. Particularly when being down on his dibbs threatens his oncoming nuptials with the sterling Jill Wyvern. Lucky for Bill he had the land-lease of Jeeves. Lucky indeed that the fish-fed mastermind's formidable genius was at liberty to take a header into such teasers as borrowing the stellar Mrs. Spottsworth's pendent for an hour or three.

Egregious reader
Revisado: 03-07-21
The reader’s nauseating portrayal of the main character renders this book almost unlistenable. Most of the other characters are dine well. The story is typical Wodehouse / Jeeves which is always enjoyable, but I would suggest looking for a different version of this audio book unless you enjoy listening to a baby-talk / Jar Jar Binks type character.
