Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Best Reader Ever!
Revisado: 01-09-20
This book has no need of a review from anyone. It's remained at the top of the best book list for hundreds of years. However, Thandie Newton's reading is deserving of the highest praise. It would be impossible for me to adequately express the depth of her talent. She can convey every subtle emotion, every breeze or cross current. every insinuation, attitude of not only Jane Eyre, but of every other character in the book. Her accent as Jane Eyre is exquisite and equally the accents of all the different servants, each of their own districts along with every other character in the story. Each voice is seemingly perfect. Her talent as a reader is unparalleled in my opinion. Enjoy, readers!

Historia
This powerful story of passion, adultery, honor, and repression caused a tremendous controversy in 1850 when it was published, because of its provocative subject matter. Set in Puritan New England, the novel begins with Hester Prynne, a young woman with an illegitimate baby daughter, leaving prison to face her scornful townsfolk. Forced to wear a scarlet letter "A" to remind people of her adultery, Hester obstinately holds her head high and refuses to reveal the father of her child.

Disappointed....
Revisado: 05-12-16
Sadly, I found that this book was ruined by the reader. The voice seemed old, crone like, rough and manly although the reader is a woman.
Although the sensibilities of both the time of the story and the time of it's writing are both some what foreign to most of us today, still the character of Hester was more cowed than would render her a heroine. Also the portrayal of the little daughter as a wicked sprite was less than generous.

Historia
On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born to an English banker and his wife. She dies before she can draw her first breath. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. For as she grows, she also dies, repeatedly, in a variety of ways, while the young century marches on towards its second cataclysmic world war.

Incredible narration.
Revisado: 05-06-16
I could listen to Fenella Woolgar read the text on a cereal box and I would be utterly rapt. Her voice can insinuate a multitude of complexities in the most simple sentence. The story was very good but made superlative by the most amazing narrator imaginable. She is beyond brilliant.
