This reader is clearly not allowing the material to enter his brain. Pauses mid sentence to turn pages and moves from one chapter to the next as though there is no break. Very hard to absorb this complex material with such a disengaged voice.

What made the experience of listening to A Gentleman in Moscow the most enjoyable?

Nabokov, Chekhov, Tolstoy, Turgenev. This delicious narrative follows an elegant count with a refined sensibility, as he lives through several decades of the early 20th. The novel gives us the backdrop of historical change and the continuities of character. Lots of great walk in characters and unforgettable description in luminous prose. Amusing, but not only amusing.
