this book is well written and an excellent introduction to the Orthodox Faith. Each chapter deals with a specific concept by explaining the Orthodox belief while contrasting it to RCC and various forms of Protestantism. Every chapter has scriptural references as well as excerpts from the Church Fathers. Two of the final chapters deal with Protestant objections concerning veneration of the saints and the Virgin Mary along with the Orthodox replies. I highly recommend this book for the inquirer or new catechumen.

great scientific exploration for the basis of faith; maybe a bit difficult for non-scientists, but over all revealing

McLaughlin managed to cover all the issues I have struggled with over my faith. She provided me with a fresh way of looking at the challenges such as the treatment of women and the problem of evil. I'd still like to know why so many animals had to suffer. It isn't some poor lamb's or dove's fault someone broke one of th 613 OT laws. At least Jesus put an end to all that!

I had not realized how deep the wounds from childhood had been until 3 shallow, selfish narcissists worked together to publically shame and humiliate me all to get their rocks off. Now I see how their actions nearly drove me to self-destruction because those actions reactivated long forgotten deep childhood wounds. Thankfully I see them now for the sadistic monsters they are and know it wasn't about me, but their lack of character and soul. Healing the childhood wounds has helped me radically accept that the world is full of cruel people but that I am not defined by their evil. I rise above and love and serve...salt and light!

I have 3 abusive adults I need to forgive. I work these exercises and pray. at least I'm at the point I want to forgive. 3 years carrying this burden and I want to be done and move on from their betrayals and abuse.

I get it and I understand. I'm an apostate, too, from the alphabet soup. I'd like to see a second book about the utter toxicity of the "community." that's what initially drove me away. there is no loyalty, little kindness, and zero honor and that's with 45 years knee deep in it that I speak from experience. thank G-d I am free!

The last chapter on justifying infidelity because the cheater "has a right to happiness" is one of the best arguments for why cheaters really are garbage people.

The other essays are also wonderfully written and insightful, calling each person to become the best he or she can by being loyal, kind, responsible, honorable, brave, and self-controlled while seeking wisdom and justice.

Like his other books, Discipline came right when I needed it. Reading this book gave me the booster shot I needed to push through another wave of difficulty. Thanks, Ryan!

All my life I've been mocked and scolded for being melancholy and dark. I did the fake happy as a child and as an adult in most of my relationships to make others feel at ease but it only drained me and sent me spiraling into depression.

This book helps me accept my natural, helpful, kind and melancholy nature and to own it along with the gifts it brings.

The fake happy people are toxic usually, and I discovered, often untrustworthy.

Cheers for the blues! Thanks, Susan Cain!
