I don't want this to be over!!
Revisado: 06-25-17
Ugh. That's going to be my review.... I really hate writing reviews for the last book in the series. It's bittersweet. I really have enjoyed getting to know David, Megan, Prof, and the rest of the gang. It has been an amazing journey and I have MacLeod Andrews to thank for leading me down it. While I'm not going to say that I will listen to anything he narrates (although it might be close), I do enjoy hearing his performances.
Mr Sanderson pulled no punches in this final book. Nothing was up for debate, questions were answered but there were still new questions being asked at the end. I really hope that his isn't the last we've seen of these people and this world. I thought I heard something about this series being picked up for a movie or tv show? I really, really hope so!! I'd love to see this come to life on the screen.
I understand why Mr Sanderson chose to end it after 3 books (and a novella). This series could easily just go on and on and on. There could be endless books and stories about Epics and The Reckoners, since these books only take place in a few cities and not the whole world. And with the alternate worlds and realities, it could get old and stale. I'm sure Mr Sanderson would like to spend his time on other stories and not just this series. It does make me sad that it is over. I might have to listen to this series again.

Historia
Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics. But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his will. Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them. And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father.

MacLeod Andrews is one of the best narrators.
Revisado: 06-25-17
I chose this book because of the narrator, MacLeod Andrews. I have listened to quite a few of the books that he has narrated. He has a way of bringing the books that he reads not just to life but to another dimension. I get so engrossed in the stories because of the flawless character switching. I forget that it's only 1 person narrating and not a complete cast. Seriously if you've never listened to a MacLeod Andrews narrated book, you need to stop what you are doing and get one.
I really liked this story and ultimately this series. I liked the idea of "super" people that aren't always heroes. It's more of a realistic take on the whole enhanced human being thinking. It seems to me that if there were more enhanced humans, not all of them would be using their powers for good. Humans are flawed often cruel in their efforts to gain power. The idea of a world where this happens on a much grander scale is not necessarily an unusual way of thinking.
David is an Epic aficionado to the point of obsession. He knows everything there is to know about the Epics and he's made it his mission in life to kill the Epic in charge of his city. That Epic, Steelheart, killed David's father. David has the element of surprise in that Steelheart doesn't know he's alive. David has been hiding in the shadows learning everything he can about these people and along the way he has started following another group of people: The Reckoners. These people have banded together as a group of Epic killers and David wants to join them.
There is a lot of action and adventure in this story. It's really well written and there aren't really any slow parts to bog it down in non-action parts. The pace is steady and the characters are complex. I'd definitely recommend this story to pretty much everyone. There really isn't any profanity that I can remember. There may have been a few damns or hells but I don't remember hearing any. The characters have their own special swear words instead of the biggies that we are all used to hearing/saying.

Historia
After a bizarre and disturbing incident at the funeral of matriarch Marian Savage, the McCray and Savage families look forward to a restful and relaxing summer at Beldame, on Alabama's Gulf Coast, where three Victorian houses loom over the shimmering beach. Two of the houses are habitable, while the third is slowly and mysteriously being buried beneath an enormous dune of blindingly white sand. But though long uninhabited, the third house is not empty. Inside, something deadly lies in wait.

It takes a while to get started but stick with it
Revisado: 03-31-17
I wasn't sure what to expect from this story. I had read the synopsis and thought that it sounded like something I would like. I listened to a snippet of it and the narrator was good so I decided to buy it.
The story does take a while to get started and it's hard to know exactly where it's going. I loved that the story was set in the south. I used to live in North Carolina and would visit South Carolina and Georgia. I love the history in that part of the country. I also love the people that live there. They are laid back, easy going, and very family oriented. The author was spot on with his depiction of these people. They are also superstitious and believe in the supernatural.
I thought the story was believable with the conflict within the family and their behavior. I really enjoyed the narrator's voices and accents. I felt like he was able to make each character come to life. He had a lot of energy and it felt like he was not just reading a story but acting it out.
There were a couple of things that I didn't like. It took some time to really get going and I almost stopped listening. I also thought the author reiterated a bunch of information that didn't need to be repeated. It seemed almost like the author thought we would forget or that we wouldn't be able to follow the breadcrumbs throughout the story.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

This book was so touching and thought provoking
Revisado: 03-31-17
A Man Called Ove was an entertaining book. I found myself laughing, smiling, grimacing, and yelling back at the story. Ove is a frustrating, pig-headed man. He thinks that his life is worthless without the love of his life. He has a hard time admitting that she's gone at first and then when he's resolved himself to that fact, he's grumpier. His new neighbors don't seem to notice though and that's one of the funniest parts of this story. They are relentless in their pursuit of friendship with the surly man.
I loved Ove, even though he was a snarky, grumpy, and completely illogical at times. His story made my heart hurt and I wanted to befriend him just so I could convince him that life wasn't so bad. He seems like the kind of guy you could have epic debates with. He also seems like the kind of guy that would stay by your side no matter what once you broke through the thick skin.
The narrator was perfect for this book. I found his tone and inflection easy to listen to and follow. I am a very picky person when it comes to narrators and sometimes find it hard to follow the story if I am agitated by the narrator. It doesn't matter if the story is good or attention grabbing. However, if I want to read the book, I'll go buy it, so it's kind of a win-win for the author as I purchase the book twice! Anyway, I am really glad that I purchased this audio book as it was an amazing experience.

Historia
Frederick is a demon. Born in Maryland in the early 1980's, he hasn't a clue where he came from or why, but feels an irresistible desire to occupy a human body. Once inside, he finds the previous occupants' consciousness and memories forever erased, an inevitable side effect that gives Frederick pause when switching bodies, but not so much as to truly halt his ongoing enjoyment of human lives. In various bodies, he travels the world for decades - aimless - sampling cultures and experiencing life from the points of view of males, females, young, old, rich, poor.

My very first audiobook and it was quite enjoyable
Revisado: 03-14-14
Would you consider the audio edition of A Warm Place to Call Home to be better than the print version?
No. The reason is that I had a different voice in my head for Frederick and I wasn't very impressed with the way he sounded in this version. I'm not saying it's bad. It's just I had a different type of character thought up than the one Ray Chase portrayed.
What did you like best about this story?
I love this entire story. It is completely different from other things that I have read or been exposed to. The twists and turns in the story were very imaginative and I definitely did not see them coming.
What about Ray Chase’s performance did you like?
He was funny and sarcastic when needed but I felt like he overdid it a bit much at times.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes. I laughed, smiled, frowned, felt anger and disbelief. I love when a story gives me an abundance of emotions.
Any additional comments?
I would like to see this become a movie. I think that Frederick is a very intriguing character and could hold his own on the big screen.
