Historia
Anna Alcott is desperate to have a family. But as she tries to balance her increasingly public life as an indie actress with a grueling IVF journey, she starts to suspect that someone is going to great lengths to make sure that never happens. Crucial medicines are lost. Appointments get swapped without her knowledge. Cryptic warnings have her jumping at shadows. And despite everything she's gone through to make this pregnancy a reality, not even her husband is willing to believe that someone is playing twisted games with her.

Narration is great
Revisado: 11-07-23
This is the first audio book that I immediately looked up the narrators list and added a bunch more books, she is great, love her voice and her performance.
The story was well done I just had an ivf baby so there was a lot of relatable content for me, there are definitely trigger though, for people that have had miscarriages or ivf failures, and general ivf/pregnancy anxiety. If you have fresh trauma there this might trigger you. I stated watching the AHS series based on the book and since it got cut off mid story, I decided to pick up l this up and I've been listening while nursing, it's been great. the TV series also should have a trigger warning for miscarriage and failed IVF. If my baby wasn't in my arms I don't think I would be able to watch it or read/listen to the book right away, I would probably need to heal first.
Aside from being relatable, the story is unique and definitely anxiety-induced creepy. I enjoyed the ending!

In this episode: What is Spiritual Bypassing? The problem with 'being above it all'. Dissociating from difficult feelings. Robert Augustus Masters write a book on Spiritual Bypassing, then abused his students. Toxic positivity protects abusers. The inability to acknowledge darkness. Teachers who haven't dealt with their psychological shit. Creating a kind of hell for yourself because you're not allowed to feel human. No compassion for self or others. Magically changing timelines to another reality? The only way 'out' is in. At 'Rock Bottom' you can't pretend anymore. Spiritual Bypassing: When...

Relatable and helpful
Revisado: 10-11-22
I'm in Utah where I have a lot of friends in/used to be in a similar group to NXIVM, this one is called Impact and they prey in people leaving the Mormon Church, so very vulnerable people, which some have become cult hoppers which I have witnessed, going from one to another, unknowingly. I've never gone to these groups, but I do have Mormon family, and with my deeply intimate relationships with people in Impact I have noticed in susceptible to the tactics and techniques of high control groups, I've looked at them with interest but kept my distance. This episode really helped me look at myself with some honesty, and have compassion for some people I have issues with their past behavior. The trauma in us all has so many personal ways to be expressed. I really admire and appreciate Mark Vicente and his process, thank you for sharing!

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Revisado: 09-29-20
This one really grabs you, must read, highly recommend! I'm grateful for a story so focused on art as an abstract concept of experience, as well as a lasting and entertaining story, complete with well done character development.

Couldn't put it down, the author has a very unique view of information in the case. Lots of documentaries to watch during or after listening, which makes the experience come to life.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

The story and character relationships are easier to follow in the book, compared to watching the series! The voice actor was incredible, giving characters their own voices. Looking forward to the next book
