Historia
Clay has had his fill of home life. A global plague has brought the world to a screeching halt, and with little to look forward to but a summer of video-calling friends, vying with annoying sisters for the family computer, and tuning out his parents’ financial worries, he’s only too happy to retreat to the woods. From the moment the elegant little dog with the ornate collar appears like an apparition among the trees, Clay sees something uncanny in her.

Historia
Growing up, Cori, Maz, and Sam were inseparable best friends, sharing their love for pop culture, Halloween, and arcade games. Now it’s 1992, Sam has been missing for five years, and Cori and Maz aren’t speaking anymore. How could they be, when Cori is sure Sam is dead, and Maz has good reason to believe he was kidnapped by a supernatural pinball machine? These days, all Maz wants to do is party and run away from his past. Meanwhile, Cori hides under the bubblegum veneer of a high school queen bee. But then Sam returns—still twelve years old, while his best friends are now seventeen.

Reliving the 80's and 90's - Highly recommend
Revisado: 02-06-23
Writing this review as a reader of the hardcopy and listener of the audio. As someone who grew up in the 80's and was a teenager in the 90's, I appreciated everything about this book, especially the horror. The author deftly creates characters and appropriate dialogue for different ages, and that mesh with how the characters interact with each other. Covering so many themes like friendship, growing up (and out of friends), and intertwining those relationships with a killer pinball machine was pretty masterful. I enjoyed both reading and listening to the book, and took something new away from both, as the story weaves together from the perspective of the 3 main characters.

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

The story, the narration, the emotions, the dragons. One of the best creations of Kelly Barnhill.

Fantastic book. The imagery is beautiful. Heart wrenching, mystical, loving. The authors note at the end is especially interesting with its connection to the story. The voice artist is a perfect match and brings this story even more to life!

I've listened to this while working in my studio and I found myself reluctant to stop when it was time. Such a wonderfully written and engulfing story. Cannot wait for the second.
