Loved it!!!!
Revisado: 07-09-14
Would you listen to An Urban Affair again? Why?
Yes. It's introspective, not action packed. But the journey the characters take proves powerful at the end.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It's slow and detailed. The narrative switches between the main male and female protagonists. I wasn't sure I liked the characters all the time, but I felt like I knew them.
Any additional comments?
I really liked the narration.

Historia
A Wicked War presents the definitive history of the 1846 war between the United States and Mexico - a conflict that turned America into a continental power. Amy Greenberg describes the battles between American and Mexican armies, but also delineates the political battles between Democrats and Whigs - the former led by the ruthless Polk, the latter by the charismatic Henry Clay and a young representative from Illinois named Abraham Lincoln. Greenberg brilliantly recounts this key chapter in the creation of the United States authority and narrative flair.

Loved the book. Loved the narrator.

Where does A Wicked War rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Pretty up there. I will listen to it again.
What other book might you compare A Wicked War to and why?
This book is a refreshing and lively take on a period of our history that is largely ignored. I recently read Howard Zinn's "A People's History" and am enjoying these new perspectives. After all, there is some science and some "art" in the interpretation of history. As a woman, I've felt left out of a lot of it throughout my life.
Which character – as performed by Caroline Shaffer – was your favorite?
I loved this narrator!!! There was a nasty review I read here from someone who called her "that woman" and I question such a personal reaction. She has a very feminine voice and perhaps that is threatening to some people? She keeps the narration lively and fun and I appreciate that. And whether you like the choice of her voice, she certainly reads intelligently and with clear thought groupings. There's no reason to "hate."
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. This book is dense and requires breaks.
Any additional comments?
I'll be looking for more from Ms. Greenberg (wish I could be in a class of hers) and Ms. Shaffer.

Terrific for a car drive! Wonderful narrator!

If you could sum up Midnight Fear in three words, what would they be?
Classic Entertaining Suspense
What was one of the most memorable moments of Midnight Fear?
I loved the suspense and the fast pace. It is certainly a formulaic mystery and I wasn't wholly surprised by the twists. (I won't spoil by giving details.) But things happen so quickly and there isn't time to get too far ahead of the plot.
I really really liked this narrator and am surprised another review made such a point to say they disliked her. (Remind them of someone?)
For me, she gave life to the book and the characters which would otherwise have been a little two dimensional.
The author throws a romance in for the protagonists that doesn't work for me. But I appreciated her attempt to give depth to these wounded people. Again, I think the narratotion helped me care more than I would have.
Which character – as performed by Caroline Shaffer – was your favorite?
I got a kick out of the reporter. I won't give more than that because there are so many ways to spoil the suspense!
Any additional comments?
It's hard to write a review of this without giving it away. So I'll just say that it's fun and not too taxing. Good for a road trip...
