Historia
Two weeks have passed since Iris Winnow returned home bruised and heartbroken from the front, but the war is far from over. Roman is missing, and the city of Oath continues to dwell in a state of disbelief and ignorance. When Iris and Attie are given another chance to report on Dacre’s movements, they both take the opportunity and head westward once more despite the danger, knowing it’s only a matter of time before the conflict reaches a city that’s unprepared and fracturing beneath the chancellor’s reign.

Beautiful story. Ending felt rushed
Revisado: 12-29-23
I love Rebecca’s writing!! It’s so lovely and poetic. I enjoyed the whole story (even despite my hatred for the memory loss trope). However, I will say the ending felt a little rushed. Everything in the story had room to breathe until the end, and then, it felt like she was trying not to go passed a certain page number or something. I don’t know how exactly to describe it, but it felt like it needed more time to wrap things up with everyone. Overall, it’s wonderful. A quick favorite. I will definitely read them again and again.

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

The Perfect Sequel to Fourth Wing
Revisado: 11-11-23
This story picked up right where the first left off and continued the roller coaster ride until the very last line. I. Loved. It.
The pace. The progress. The moments of humor that had me laughing out loud like a lunatic. The passion. The twists and turns. All of it. Even when the main characters fight, I love that it feels real and honest and yeah even a little repetitive. Each emotion feels valid, and Yarros lets it breath on the page. I love how clever Violet and how she can be so human and so confident and powerful at the same time. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Also, everyone get off the narrators back! She did a phenomenal job. If ya don’t like it, read the next book yourself. She kept me beyond engaged as she read and kind of “acted out” the text. I enjoyed both narrator’s performances!! (Though it would be great to have more chapters in Xaden’s perspective)

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

What A Wild Ride
Revisado: 07-13-23
Listened pretty much nonstop. Absolutely loved the world and the characters and the brutal honesty of the story. Now I’m kinda bummed bc I thought the second was already released. Hopefully the audio book releases at the same time as the novel (all fingers crossed) Guess I’ll have to wait til November to find out!
Narration was pretty perfect. No complaints. Only anticipation for the second!!

Historia
The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she’s an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs. Honestly, it’s a pretty sweet gig—until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down.

All the things you love about Ali but with a lackluster love
Revisado: 06-19-23
I absolutely LOVE the author’s voice. Her writing style is honest and hilarious and a touch self deprecating in the best way. The world of academia has never been so entertaining.
However, as far as the love story in this one goes, it was a comparatively lackluster. Don’t get me wrong, they each help the other grow, but the instantaneous declaration of feelings on his part with the blatant disregard for said declarations got old fast. (After the 37th time she was shocked by his omission to feelings, I was ready to throttle her) It very much served a purpose for Elsie’s character, but it still wasn’t as enjoyable as Ali’s other love stories.
Millicent is a queen—forever and always!! May she live to be 200. The narrator kicked butt and took names. Ali’s same quirky-laugh-out-loud writing kept me listening quite literally straight through (in one day). I will continue to relisten to her works until the next book is released.

Interesting story, lagging pace
Revisado: 05-21-23
Loving the story. It’s interesting and I’m here for it. However, the pace of this book was much slower, and I hate that Tauria didn’t get more moments to be her badass self. There were too many moments when she was floundering and not enough where she showed her incredible strength. Just a little disappointing how her character was stripped down so much (I think that’s what slowed down the pace too much). I’m still here for the twists and turns, and I remain hopeful that it just keeps getting better!

Post-Prologue Post-Epilogue Review
Revisado: 05-12-23
OK. In this review, I will be writing two separate reviews. The first is the review I wanted to post after listening to the prologue, and the second is the review that I am actually writing of the entire work. Here we go.
Post-Prologue:
FIRST. Biggest mistake in Audible history. You never ever replace Elizabeth Evans as a narrator. It is simply not done. She is quite literally the reason that I chose to start listening to this series. I was so excited that there was another book in this genre that Elizabeth could read to me, but I didn’t realize I needed to be more specific in my wants. I don’t want just any Elizabeth to read to me. I want Elizabeth Evans!!! The first book was pretty good, and I was like heck yes let’s plow through, go ahead and start the second book… BUT the narrator was switched on me. Not only that, but this Elizabeth is the most monotone person on the planet. Literally getting through the prologue was an effort… I’m contemplating physically reading the rest of the series… I’m very unsure if I can listen to over 12hours of her voice.
Post-Epilogue:
Ok, ok. I pressed through. It took a minute to get accustomed to the new narrator (and I occasionally still zone out), BUT she got a little better as it went. The story is pretty great so far. I would be lying if I said there weren’t many things that remind me of other series, but I think she still writes very well and has made the story her own. I’m devouring these books faster than I’ve gotten to take in a series in a long while. Remaining hopeful that the plot twists will just keep getting better and better.

Now what I was expecting, but that’s not a complaint!
Revisado: 07-10-22
Ok, so I didn’t understand that this wasn’t a book-book. It’s like an audible storytime-podcast meets dramatized script-reading, and I honestly loved it so much! The two voice actors were so good, and their chemistry was undeniable and sucks you in so fast. The storyline was ridiculous and adorable. Very quick, fun and lighthearted listen. Well done.

I’m going to need a minute to process everything…
Revisado: 02-20-22
Ok. So. I personally did not like Crescent City as well as the other works of SJM; however, I’m a sucker for her writing, so here I am, finished with her latest work. I truly just had a “Meh” level of excitement going in. I figured it would follow the typical book two formula of information-overload, introduction of new characters, more world building, and of course a plot-twist cliffhanger to finish it off. Yes, it did have all of these things, but SJM managed to surprise me (yet again)! I enjoyed this book far more than the first Crescent City novel. I think the other supporting characters really brought a life that was much needed. SJM definitely made my jaw drop in surprise more than once with this one, and I am now finishing the book with a much higher excitement level that I started with. The ending plot twist was something that flittered through my mind before I started this book, but I laughed it off…. BUT THEN SHE DID IT! And in true SJM form, it was much better than I imagined.
Now I am left with more questions and theories, and I need time to process them all. I am anxiously waiting to find out how long I have to wait for the next novel.
Also, I am so freaking glad she chose to go back to Elizabeth Evans as the narrator for this series. This woman could read me a soap box and I would be on the edge of my seat begging for more. She. Is. Phenomenal. I am convinced she could make a terrible story entertaining from start to finish, so imagine what she does with incredible stories like SJM’s!! She’s the best. Period.
Last thing… Do not. I repeat. Do NOT let your children (really even teens) listen to/read this series. With each new SJM series the smut level increases exponentially, so proceed with caution… and listen while you are alone. Until next time

Good but not as good as other SJM books
Revisado: 08-22-21
Ok. First and foremost, let’s establish that anyone who can create such a complex world and dynamic characters deserves praise for their hard work! I am not saying this book is bad. I am giving my opinion on the book by kind of comparing it to her other novels that I’ve read (bc that’s impossible not to do). This book did not have anywhere near the overarching plot and development that Throne of Glass had (frankly ACOTAR didn’t either) or the character dynamics the ACOTAR. 1) Did it have a good plot? Yes, but it took it so long to get into the meat of the story. Then, after going around and around, I kind of felt like answers were thrown at me. Looking back, the ending was really interesting, but I didn’t enjoy the journey as much, you know? It started off very slow, picked up but there were so many dead ends, and then the end felt like it was all happening too quickly. 2) Did it have good character dynamics? Yes, but several of the characters felt like watered down versions of other SJM characters who already have my heart. However, I will ALWAYS love SJM’s ability to create the most sassy, most clever female characters, and her brooding ancient men are always fun too;) She never disappoints there. I did love the friendship dynamic between Bryce and Danika. I feel like that was something new for one of her female leads (at least at this level of love and friendship) I don’t know. I’m rambling at this point, but I’m just not as satisfied with this one. It was good, and I will read the next one when it comes out… but I will probably never read it 100 times like I have Throne of Glass. I am still the biggest SJM fan. I will read anything and everything she chooses to write (fantasy, sci-fi, romance, the back of cereal boxes…literally anything). My opinion take it or leave it.
Also, as far as narrators go, Elizabeth Evans is definitely one of my favorites. When I see her name listed under a title, I normally buy it without giving much thought to the book details. She is beyond talented and incredible at what she does. Idk if there are awards for narration, but if there are, she deserves every one of them!
