Having read it himself, Dr. Marsh adds power, depth and texture to a story that is at once fantastic and charmed and at the same time approachable and flawed. I've probably listened to this book 3-4 times and hear something new with each chapter I revisit. the only chapter I find myself uncomfortable with is his thoughts on assisted suicide that seem an odd bookend to a life spent in sacrifice and service of healing.

I first listen to Dr.Brown read Braving the Wilderness. At the time I didnt know anything about her work or even what she sounded like. The one thing I remember was thinking wow, this voice actor doing the reading is really good, not realizing it was the author. Once I completed the book, inspired and stunned by her work, I started to dive deeper into her findings and began to apply them to my life. The experience has been transformative for me, an angry, cynical, physician. I am working toward calm and whole heartedness, with vulnerability leading the way. This audio edition of her work is an excellent compilation and synthesis of the majority of her findings as a shame researcher. Knitted together with her own vulnerability and ability to connect stories with her research findings in a way that is convincing, fun, and charming at the same time.
