Historia
Millions of Americans know yoga as a superb form of exercise and as a potent source of calm in the midst of our stress-filled lives. Far fewer are aware of the full promise of yoga as "the way of the fully alive human being" - a 4,000-year-old practical path of liberation that fits the needs of modern Western seekers with startling precision. Now Stephen Cope, a Western-trained psychotherapist who has lived and taught for more than 10 years at the largest yoga center in America, offers this marvelously lively and irreverent "pilgrim's progress" for today's world.

Very well done

Stephen Cope helped me to understand the yoga practice through his own story of discovery. I appreciate his honesty and his desire to find truth inside the surface distortions that we humans are prone to embrace. I am new to the practice of yoga and I this book inspired me to go deeper with my practice. I’m seeing yoga as an ancient universal practice -a wine skin if you will- that can be filled with any tradition of spirituality. Stephen mentions that he came from a background of Christian theology and that there were truths he found in “Eastern” religion, practice and dogma that were absent in the Christian tradition. I’m finding that much of these deep transforming truths are being re-discovered by many Christian authors such as Richard Rohr, Wm Paul Young, Baxter Kruger, Bradley Jersak and others. Where I find Eastern religion or philosophy lacking and Christian theology more fulfilling is its core Truth of redemption, reconciliation, atonement, restoration in the person and work of Christ. Thank you Stephen for opening a door of deeper understanding which I believe will be helpful in my journey toward love, healing, joy and fruitfulness in this world.

Historia
God Is Disappointed in You is for people who would like to read the Bible...if it would just cut to the chase. Stripped of its arcane language and interminable passages, every book of the Bible is condensed down to its core message, in no more than a few pages each. Written by Mark Russell with cartoons by New Yorker cartoonist Shannon Wheeler, God Is Disappointed in You is a frequently hilarious, often shocking, but always accurate retelling of the Bible, including the parts selectively left out by Sunday School teachers.

Amusing and confusing

After listening to the author’s rendition of the OT I’m left with a very different image of God than what I heard in the four NT gospels. This has been a huge enigma for me that this book does well to bring to the foreground. Jesus in his own words says that if you have seen him you have seen the Father. Well, the God portrayed in the OT is nothing like Jesus so where is the disconnect? What if Jesus was more like Moses or David? He would have raised an army and kicked some ass but no. Jesus shared the Fathers love by helping and loving people wherever he found them. He also confronted the religious abusers who represented the OT God. All this led to being hunted down and crucified. Seems like He could have easily avoided this end but he chose not to. Thank you Mark and Shannon for your work. I would like to hear the author’s commentary on this question. Anyway, when I imagine what the OT God would have been like if he came to earth as a human, Jesus was the surprise that I wouldn’t have expected but seems just right. James did an amazing job as narrator.

At a time in which some within the African American community are questioning the place of the Christian faith in the struggle for justice, New Testament scholar McCaulley argues that reading Scripture from the perspective of Black church tradition is invaluable for connecting with a rich faith history and addressing the urgent issues of our times.

As a 50 something year old white man who has been immersed in the American evangelical church more than 30 years, I’m finding many like me who are deeply questioning where we went wrong. Prior to reading this book, I read Malcolm X’s autobiography and it delivered a jolting awakening to the history racism in America. Malcolms critique of “white-man’s Christianity” was particularly devastating. Esau further illuminates this history from the perspective of one who endured racism personally and yet he holds faithfully to the core of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ as revealed in Scripture. The author does a great job on developing his thesis in a way that shows reverence to the scriptures and to his community of faith. The final chapter brought together all the groundwork for me in a powerful, gracious and hopeful way. I understand why Esau focused heavily on the writings of Paul to build the New Testament vision of the reconciliation of all people groups since Paul’s words were twisted to justify the oppression of slavery. I would love hear more of the person, work and teaching of Jesus the Messiah in removing the walls of separation between the races. This book has inspired me to serve as a peacemaker between black and white in my community. Thank you Esau for sharing the work and passion of your life!

Historia
In The Genesis Enigma, respected evolutionary biologist Andrew Parker explains each parallel between Genesis and science in detail--and the closer he looks, the more amazing the parallels become. But the Genesis account has no right to be correct. The author or authors could not have known these things happened in this order, and with the highlights science has come to recognize.

Where were you...Andrew Parker?
Revisado: 08-21-13
Mr Parker uses his vast knowledge of science to intimidate and repudiate those who do not buy into the orthodoxy he is protecting. He spends the majority of the book establishing the materialistic view of the origin of life. He dogmatically asserts that the unguided machine of evolution drove all 4.5 billion years of the universe's development (except for the first one millionth of a second or something like that) with proven, "rock-solid" facts. There was very little attempt to persuade the reader but rather more of an attempt to overwhelm those of a "lesser intellect". He then congratulates the Ancient I AM for getting the story of creation "right". I am reminded of the passage in Job chapter 38 when God spoke to Job he said to him, "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth...? Well, Mr Parker writes as if he was a witness to it all! Yes, there was an admission towards the end of the book that there are some mysteries in the universe that may never be explained by science. But the place he left open for faith or religion seemed marginal at best... nothing that one would suffer to defend.
