Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

A book that should go on forever.
Revisado: 07-24-19
The hero of this book becomes so dear to the listener and so real that I wished I could make him come to life. He is quirky and realistic.
The story line never disappoints. Not an adventure or a comedy although elements of all these are present. Why should u read it? Because it’s just plain wonderful.

Historia
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semifinals, and they actually have a shot at winning.

Absolutely great!
Revisado: 05-27-17
A story of a passionate, small sports town like so many others but with drama and suspense that the reader can identify as realistic yet original.

Historia
In the New England university town of Elm Harbor, a murder begins to crack the veneer that has hidden the racial complications of the town's past, the secrets of a prominent family, and the most hidden bastions of African-American political influence. At the center is Lemaster Carlyle, the university president, and his wife, Julia Carlyle, a deputy dean at the divinity school - African Americans living in "the heart of whiteness".

Everything you could want in an Audiobook
Revisado: 12-17-13
Would you listen to New England White again? Why?
I actually have already listened to it twice. I would wait a while and then listen again. Entertaining, smart, looked forward every day to listening while I exercised and eventually started to listen whenever I got the chance. The second listen was as good as the first.
What other book might you compare New England White to and why?
Emperor of Ocean Park. Maybe Scott Turow's books.
What does Bahni Turpin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Realism.

Historia
In this Hugo-winner from Connie Willis, when too many jumps back to 1940 leave 21st century Oxford history student Ned Henry exhausted, a relaxing trip to Victorian England seems the perfect solution. But complexities like recalcitrant rowboats, missing cats, and love at first sight make Ned's holiday anything but restful - to say nothing of the way hideous pieces of Victorian art can jeopardize the entire course of history.

So unexpected!

I bought this during the $4.00 sale just to take advantage of the sale. I have been chuckling and smiling since I turned it on. I wish there were a magic charm that would show me many more books just like this, with a reader just as talented. It may say it is science fiction, but that is such a minor part of the whole that you can't even take that seriously. I am so fortunate as to have accidentally stumbled on this book.

I never know whether to trust reviewers or not, but you can trust that this is an excellent book to listen to in audio form. I am very unhappy that it is over and wish I could find something to enjoy as much as I have this book. All of her books except "Sister" have been page turners. She is a real story teller; don't expect "Crime and Punishment" but she is a good technical writer and never talks down. Her characters have realistic, not-contrived dialogue. You can't go wrong!
