Great prequel

I loved hearing a possible description of what happened in Hell House during the first psychic exploration. It was also interesting to get some insight into Belasco and his previous wife and son.

Historia
In June of 1968, Irene Izak, a young French teacher from Scranton, Pennsylvania, was pulling an all-nighter on the road toward the promise of a new life in Quebec. The last time she was seen alive was at 2:09 a.m. by a toll collector at Thousand Island Bridge, who claimed Irene was visibly afraid. Less than a half-hour later, Irene was found bludgeoned to death in a ravine bordering DeWolf Point State Park. There were no signs of robbery or sexual assault. For reasons unknown, Irene had been compelled to pull off the interstate and abandon her car, only to be brutally murdered.

I enjoyed this true crime story. It easy to get caught up in the pain the family felt and the not knowing of what really happened.

Loyalty
Revisado: 08-30-24
I enjoyed hearing how the folks behind the scenes with England's royal family dealt not only with personal quirks, but how to keep The Firm moving. It seems like each member of the family has their own reaction to those around them and how the courtiers keep their secrets. That is until Meghan Markle arrived and threw a cog into the well oiled machine.

Historia
Imani Perry’s Audible Original A Dangerously High Threshold for Pain tells the dramatic story of her ongoing struggle with lupus—an autoimmune disease that attacks multiple organ systems—and what we can all learn from those who are grappling with chronic illness. It’s a powerful and poetic story that evokes the works of Susan Sontag, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Audre Lorde.

Historia
I absolutely adore Halloween. I love the vibrant fall colors and the fun and revelry. And Samhain (Sa-win) is a major holiday for witches because it represents our new year. It’s the time when the spirit world meets the living. So I wanted to throw a Halloween party for my students at Hawthorne University. Since the Billington frat house wasn’t available, I planned a party at my place. But as Maddie sat smiling in our circle, planning pumpkin carvings and costume contests, a visitor from my teacher’s past appeared, in tears, beside our bonfire.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a new take on witches, Halloween, and Samhain. I enjoyed the history of Samhain and of witches. It was different from the traditional devil worshiping kind.

Henry VIII ruled England from 1509 to 1547. As a young man, he was fond of sports and hunting and was said to be uncommonly handsome. Standing more than six feet tall, he loomed large in the lives and minds of his subjects as he navigated his country through the tricky diplomatic and military hazards of the 16th century.

A sympathetic Henry
Revisado: 06-25-22
This was a short history of the life of Henry VIII. This one gives a bit more balanced version of Henry's behavior and actually make Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard sympathetic characters. We also see that Catherine's marriage was a form of revenge by Tom Boleyn as widow.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.
