But another man took the bullet intended for him, and now Ryan’s living on borrowed time. As long as he stays ‘dead’, in the sanctuary of his parents’ home in Devon, there’s a chance to find the people behind the deadly killing network. It’s only a matter of time before his secret’s uncovered, and nowhere will be safe.

Worth the wait
Revisado: 04-10-25
I enjoyed everything. It was great to catch up with this beloved and familiar CID team once more. The story was full of twists and turns and gave enough reminders of previous cases. Alnwick descriptions brought happy memories. Jonathan Keble is still one of the best narrators; his authentic character acting never failing to induce interest and affection.

Historia
DCI Harry Grimm has a sneaking suspicion the bleak Yorkshire Dales are growing on him. Though shadows from his big-city past still loom, he’s finding his place among the quirky townsfolk and their eccentric eating habits. But his gruesome crime scene expertise takes center stage when a successful visiting author is found dead. Investigating the cantankerous writer’s entourage, Grimm lines up too many suspects with motives for murder. But with the evidence not adding up and the press piling on relentless pressure, the determined policeman could end up facing his own final chapter.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Too many lives
Revisado: 01-17-25
I liked the analogy of a library but disliked she tasted so many books and lives. I wanted to skip some.
I liked the uplifting ending.
I didn’t enjoy the narrator’s voice, it had a boring tone much of the time. Pity, as Carey Mulligan is a very impressive actor.

Historia
The tale begins in Dark Age Britain, a land where Arthur has been banished and Merlin has disappeared, where a child-king sits unprotected on the throne, where religion vies with magic for the souls of the people. It is to this desperate land that Arthur returns, a man at once utterly human and truly heroic: a man of honor, loyalty, and amazing valor; a man who loves Guinevere more passionately than he should; a man whose life is at once tragic and triumphant.

Good Story
Revisado: 07-16-21
I liked the story: the starting build up was slow but it revved up to a full steam page turner. I enjoyed the connections of the characters from the war years to present day. I could very easily create mind pictures of the author’s people, places, feelings and actions. I loved that bees played a central part.
For me, the narrator’s voice was depressing especially her lilt at the end of each sentence - off putting. I wish she’d scrapped the French accents for the French characters and worked to pronounce French words correctly.
All in all a good listen.

Revisado: 07-01-21
This for me was a super listen. I wanted to binge but didn’t want it to end. It is a WW2 mystery with mouthwatering descriptions of Italian cooking, delightful landscapes, homes, and endearing main characters. There’s just enough storytelling without it being predictable. Just enough romance, too. I listened to The Venice Sketchbook before this and loved it as well.
The narrators made the characters come alive and were very easy on the ear, so important for me. I wanted to hear more of Jonathan Keeble’s voice so have looked him up for future listening.
Please write more in this genre, Rhys.
