Historia
Fleance is the son of Scottish thane Banquo, friend and then victim of the ruthless Macbeth. Ten years have passed since his father's brutal murder, and still Fleance lives in hiding in the woods of Northern England - his identity cloaked, his birthright denied. With sweet, beautiful Rosie by his side, he has settled into a simple life rather than one of power and prestige. But every man has his price....

Shakespeare it ain't
Revisado: 10-07-15
What would have made Banquo's Son better?
A bit more originality would be nice. The plot is a rather hackneyed tale of star-crossed lovers (pun intended). I'm thinking he was trying to borrow some of the elements of Hamlet, unsuccessfully (or at least very badly). Derivative is probably a kind description.
Would you ever listen to anything by T. K. Roxborogh again?
Probably not.
Would you be willing to try another one of Napoleon Ryan’s performances?
I couldn't quite make out what accent the narrator thought he was doing (certainly neither Elizabethan english or Scottish) and his idea of a woman's voice appears to be some sort of falsetto. Maybe I would listen to something of his set as modern english, as long as there were no female characters.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Boredom and annoyance. At some point it became so painful to listen to that I had to give up.

Historia
In this Hugo-nominated novel, an alien walks into a museum and asks if he can see a paleontologist. But the arachnid ET hasn't come aboard a rowboat with the Pope and Stephen Hawking (although His Holiness does request an audience later). Landing at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, the spacefarer, Hollus, asks to compare notes on mass extinctions with resident dino-scientist Thomas Jericho.

a facile understanding of many sciences
Revisado: 06-07-15
if you can overlook the extremely superficial understanding of physics and biolgy, and you want to use these to justify your belief in a god (or gods for that matter), then you'll possibly enjoy this book. I would note that he hasn't even invented a particularly believable alien (especially since he insists on parallel evolution). About halfway through the narratve, I found myself hoping the protagonist/narrator would just go ahead and die. And on the topic of intelligent design, Sawyer, like so many others, never even mentions the problem of what created god. So if you love stick figure caricatures of both atheists and fundamentalists, you'll LOVE this book. The actual narration was done decently.

Historia
It is the 14th century, and one of the most apocalyptic events in human history is set to occur - the coming of the Black Death. History teaches us that a third of Europe's population was destroyed. But what if the plague had killed 99 percent of the population instead? How would the world have changed? This is a look at the history that could have been - a history that stretches across centuries, a history that sees dynasties and nations rise and crumble, a history that spans horrible famine and magnificent innovation.

consider the Bardo

Excellent narration of an interesting dialog on the meaning of history, life, death, and the meaning of rebirth (if any).. This is much more than a simple alternate histor. it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you enjoy KSR, you'll find this book a great listen.

One book too many
Revisado: 02-14-15
I think it was a good thing this was the last book It was beginning to sound like a Tea party/survivalist/NRA recruitment screed. He seemed to have run out of anything to write other than very repetitive descriptions of slaughtering zombies. If I want to read propaganda I'll go right to the Republican Party website.

Historia
In the 10th year of the Change, the survivors in western Oregon have learned how to live in a world without technology. They have held the Lord Protector, Norman Arminger - the warlord of Portland - at bay. The tensions between these factions have been building for some time, and the only reason they haven't confronted one another on the battlefield is because Arminger's daughter has fallen into Clan Mackenzie's hands. But Lady Sandra has a plan to retrieve her, one that may spark open warfare.

It was so bad, I had trouble listening
Revisado: 12-01-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I can't imagine who would enjoy it in this format.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
N/A - I'd read it years ago
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I only got audible because this old book was no longer available in print. I knew it was dated. That said, the narrator's voice was so annoying, I could hardly listen. He made every character sound like some racist, sexist dream of the 1950s, only more so (and I lived through that decade). If this is an example of audible books, I will never listen to another. I have no idea who would enjoy it.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The actual book captured some of the fears of the early atomic age. Unfortunately, this narrative did not.
