Historia
Jennifer Thorne skewers all-too-familiar family dynamics in this sly, wickedly funny vacation-Gothic. Beautifully unhinged and deeply satisfying, Diavola is a sharp twist on the classic haunted house story, exploring loneliness, belonging, and the seemingly inescapable bonds of family mythology.

2/3 of an amazing thriller
Revisado: 09-07-24
This book completely falls apart in the last third, To the point that I'm not even sure if I recommend it anymore. I was very engaged for the middle portion.

Great low stakes story to revisit the characters
Revisado: 12-29-23
I was not at all a fan of the narrators voice. however this book was great and I loved how low stakes this book was - it allowed for a lot of character development and it made me very nostalgic for middle school.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

4/5 of a Masterpiece Thriller
Revisado: 01-10-23
Through the climax this was the most thrilling suspense novel I've ever read. Amazing narration and accent work. The last part of this story after the climax during the court cases is some of the most insane and implausible melodramatic soap opera nonsense I've ever heard, but It was still extremely worth it to experience. Highly recommend to all thrill seekers.

No book has ever made me feel this stupid before
Revisado: 07-06-21
I don't think any book has ever looked me in the face and said "You are very stupid" like this one. I can see why people say it's Christie's best, because it challenges the very notion of what a book is and uses that vulnerability to break the reader. Masterwork.

Historia
Here is a short, sleek novel of encounters, set in Tokyo during the witching hours between midnight and dawn, and every bit as gripping as Haruki Murakami's masterworks The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and Kafka on the Shore. At its center are two sisters: Eri, a fashion model slumbering her way into oblivion, and Mari, a young student soon led from solitary reading at an anonymous Denny's toward people whose lives are radically different from her own.

Couldn't put it down
Revisado: 04-07-21
amazing narration and absolute page turner. I wasn't a fan of the ending, very anticlimactic for my tastes, but the rest of it was very interesting. I love the style in which this is written, first person omnipresent. I don't know that I've seen that before.

Another fun romp that takes itself too seriously
Revisado: 12-01-20
Couldn't put it down just like the first one but in trying to take itself so seriously, I think ready player two exposes some of the weaknesses in Ernest Cline's writing in great detail. I've excused a lot of the shortcomings of the first book, which is one of my favorites of all time, remembering it's a popcorn movie but as a book. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that - In fact, I think we need more of them. however, in attempting to do an earnest and real study of what it means to be human and defining the human condition, I think Cline has opened himself up to some harsher criticisms.
The third act of the book kind of falls apart, and I'm not convinced that the protagonists have genuinely learned anything by the end. I also think that while it did call into stark relief the horrifying nature of Haliday's abusive and misogynistic actions, by the end it seems that Wade has forgotten the intensity to which his hero was truly sick in the mind . Overall it was still a good time and I think it was definitely worth writing, but once Cline moves to a new property He's really going to need to get his act together If he wants to play with the big boys.

A huge disappointment after the first book
Revisado: 05-01-20
The final empire was one of the best books I have read in my entire life, and did this felt much more like some sort of teen focused young adult fantasy novel. I'm going to get to the third book now but I'm not excited for it.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

legitimately one of the best books I've ever read.
Revisado: 04-20-20
I don't really know what to say about this book except for you to read it. this is a perfect blend of all the best elements of sci-fi and fantasy without any of the rest of the crap that drags it down. this is the most immaculate and precise world building I've ever seen, you are fed exactly the right amount of information you need to understand each scene as it is happening without a single exposition dump anywhere. get it.
